More movies SIMILAR to this one???

I love post apocalyptic movies. There's a certain believability to them ;) It's too bad this one didn't fair so well. I thought it was a great B grade movie. Are there any movies at least as good as this one I should check out?

I've seen the following, and enjoyed them:
Logan's Run 1976
Waterworld
2012
Terminator
The matrix
Knowing
The Road
The book of eli
I am legend
Resident evil
the day after tomorrow
The Postman
The Stand

I could probably go on, but lets just trust, that I've seen the EPIC movies LOL!

I found a decent list below :)

The only one I can think of right now, besides the ones from your list, is 9. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but I can pretty much remember that it was about how these really smart machines were invented, but were so smart they ended up turning on the humans and killing them all, and a scientist (or something along those lines) puts his soul into 9 rag dolls. I can't remember much else, but it would definitely fall under post apocalyptic.

reply

LOL! 9! I forgot about that one. Excellent movie! ;)

reply

I recommend Mad Max and/or the Road Warrior if you haven't seen either of those. Also Children of Men, which I guess can be considered a sort of pre-apocalypse movie.

reply

I've seen children of men(pretty decent), the others I have not. Thanks! :)

reply

Not exactly the same...but made me think of Tremors...lol

reply

LOL! Tremors is good. At least the first one. It kind of went down hill after the first one. Although most sequels do ;)

Omegaman, with a handle like yours, I'll be considering you to be my MAIN MAN for go-to post-apocalypse fun.

A fun one, with hot chicks, satirical edge, and kinda-scary pop-up thrills, is Night of the Comet.

It isn't SIMILAR to this one, but it's as post-apoc fun as one can have for 95 minutes, plus the always wonderful Mary Woronov is head of the team of ... No, can't spoil it.

When you make a fuller list, maybe you could drop by here again to share it with us?

I'll definitely be checking it out. Thanks! And I likely will concoct a large list of disaster movies to share with the thread :)

reply

Hell, I might even have an extra copy of the "Night of the Comet" DVD, which I could gift to you. I'll search my shelves.

Apropos of nothing, many years ago I decided to collect all the werewolf movies I could find. Since my bf is a collector of vintage horror movies (and wrote and starred in "Eyes of the Werewolf"), I found quite a lot. And then I forgot. I've probably missed many films from the 2K decade.

Wait, duh, Fiona. My boyfriend, Tim Sullivan (listed on IMDb as Tim Sullivan (V)), also wrote and starred in "Twilight of the Dogs," which has its own page here at the IMDb - that one's post-apocalyptic. All of the movies he's been connected with were micro-budget straight-to-DVD fun little films, and I added most of the info for them.

I'll look for an extra copy of that one, too, though I'm pretty sure I have only the VHS format.

Please do make that list! Even if only a handful of folks here contribute to it, we might make the best Disaster Movie List on the planet. Which won't feed the poor, but which will be totally awesome.

Nice to meet you, mate!

Fiona

Hey, couldn't find an extra copy of "Night of the Comet" at home - but I think you'll enjoy it. It's horror-comedy gold.

Cant think of any more movies but some tv shows are Jericho and The Tribe.

Delicatessan
Dark City
City Of Lost Children

reply

I've seen dark city before. Excellent movie. Sutherland was very impressive in this one :)
The other two sound very interesting. I'm not generally into foreign movies, but I did like Pans labyrinth. It opened my mind in fact.

reply

IMHO Delicatessan is the best movie that has been mentioned on this thread.

Delicatessan
Dark City
City Of Lost Children

definitely those three

reply

Good list but... how could you leave out Twelve Monkeys when five billion people had been wiped out??

In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritu Sancti.

Just saw the movie while flipping through channels. To me, the premise seemed most similar to Aeon Flux, The Starlost, Logan's Run and THX-1138. They all deal with dystopian versions of the future where a population has forgotten its past.

reply

I kept thinking Logan's Run while watching it.

This sonic transducer is I suppose some kind of audio-vibratory-physio-molecular transport device

reply

Yup!. Tonyhouse. Your entries are the most closely aligned with the basic plot. Well done.

reply

Try The City of Lost Children, it's not apocalyptic per se, but visually CoE lifted much from CoLC

reply

Michael York's Logan's Run. check it out!

reply

I recently purchased Logan's Run on blu-ray. Since it seems to be very popular. Just haven't watched it yet. Probably will tonight now :)

reply

corny but good story. let me know what u think of it after watching.

reply

Perhaps a bit corny at times. But I enjoyed it for the most part. I'm gonna post a question in the proper thread. Something has me a bit confused.

Thanks for recommending it. It's not something I'll soon forget :)

reply

I'm curious to know about your question. Could you post the link where you ask your question? Perhaps I could help.
