Brilliant

This was a brilliant juxtaposition of fiction and fact. The great innovator of silent films, Georges Melier, is featured in this movie. Mix in an orphan boy, a naive young girl, a comic and broken security officer, a romance between two older people, outstanding images of 1930's French Train Station, silent films if Melier and the music of that time and you get a brilliant nostalgic film. Some claim it is fluff with no substance but I found it very entertaining and informative at the same time.

I thought it was very entertaining, though the mixture of fact and fiction could be a little confusing at times.

Agreed this movie is outstanding and the imagery is amazing

Absolutely. It's a beautiful film. One has to admire Scorsese even more for making it. I don't know if audiences were looking for another Scorsese gangster film, and I can't imagine why this wonderful movie was a "flop". I loved every minute.
