1967, WTF?

What on earth is the 1967 season included on here? There is no mention of this season anywhere else...ie Wiki etc. Even the A.T Website has only the 1978 and 80 seasons. If it was a programme with the same name it shouldn't be included as a part of this series.

The 1967 "Armchair Thriller" was a spin off single play strand from (the British) ABC TVs "Armchair Theatre" for thriller type stories. Only a couple of these b/w programmes survive I think.

The 1978 and 1980 "Armchair Thriller" series, from Thames and Southern TV, was an unrelated series of self contained 4 and 6 part serials with cliffhanger climaxes.

The ties between the two are indeed tenuous.

Tenuous to say the least.

Well yes ... Thames was the successor company in 1968 to ABC (in fact comprised 51% ABC and 49% Redifusion stock) .. and they continued "Armchair Theatre" from 1968 to 1974 (it being originally an ABC show 1950s-1968), then made "Armchair Cinema" (which included "The Sweeney" pilot "Regan") and later "Armchair Thriller" ('78-'80) .. so there is a slight tie in with the '67 Armchair Thriller in that that run was part of the original Armchair Theatre.

In summary the "link" is (a) the "Armchair" branding and (b) the fact that Thames were an offshoot of ABC-TV (UK).
