This film is so hysterical. Check out the bomber cockpit, it's practically a living room!. The Sci-Fi channel keeps churning these things out, but you can't expect the amazing Battlestar Galactica every time. At least they got that right.
Take it for what it is, not what it isn't and you'll have a good time.

I'm wondering, "HOW can one make a do-it-yourself MST3K of this?"
For example, there's some technology to make subtitles, separately from the video itself.
Anyone know how that's done?
I think Mike Nelson (formerly of BestBrains / MST3K) now does audio tracks meant to be played simultaneously alongside the film. Anyone know more about that (the real thing, and how the tech he uses works)?
