SPOILERS* Ballistic Reports *SPOILERS*

*SPOILERS*

There is an element of the story bothering me.

Chi Wai and Wong's gun the whole time. And Ho was investigating the whole case.

Now Ho must be aware of the facts of the case. As in, he knows that the ballistics involved in the robberies and other crimes match with Wong's gun. I'm not sure how the police procedural works, but somewhere the investigation must have encountered Wong's gun number, i.e. #6813.

Now, whatever the outcome, the records would still have #6813 against Wong's name. Just by exchanging gun numbers on the database doesn't wipe the trail.

This particular piece just doesn;t seem to fit in an otherwise brilliant film. I don't know, but I seem to be bothered by it.

maybe it was implied that he also removed other parts of the trail, but they didn't need to show every step. The film makers just show what the guy is up to.

Yeah, that point bothered me, too.
I agree that either
A) the second poster is correct, or
B) that you just gotta take it with a grain of salt.

If Wong AND Chi-wai had never fired there guns in the line of duty, we can assume that there is no contradictory reports. Therefore when the murders occurred and the ballistics matched back to the number assigned to Wong in the database. Service weapons were not catalogued by name because they may be assigned to someone else later IE Ho being assigned Bun's old gun.
