Joanna Lumley has begun filming in Bristol on the third series of hit BBC One drama, Mistresses, produced by Ecosse Films. She will be starring alongside Sarah Parish, Orla Brady, Shelley Conn and Sharon Small who reprise their roles as best friends Katie, Siobhan, Jessica and Trudi. The critically acclaimed drama, which follows the ups and downs of four friends, will take a shocking turn as the usually bubbly women begin the series with a frosty silence following a bitter feud.

"Expect lots of drama in the new series of Mistresses. Katie, Trudi, Siobhan and Jessica are taken somewhere they've never been before as their friendship group crumbles around them." - Douglas Rae, Executive Producer for Ecosse Films.

Having previously supported one another through thick and thin their close-knit friendship group has been torn apart, but what could have caused such a drastic rift? The series, which is directed by Tim Fywell (The No. One Ladies' Detective Agency, The Turn Of The Screw), will go back several months to the calm before the storm. The story of the women's lives unfolds as the lies and deceit that ripped the friends apart unravels.

Lumley plays Vivienne, Katie's mum, who shows up from South Africa with the intention of helping her daughter get her life back on track following her breakup with lover Dan. However, Vivienne gets more than she bargains for as she is thrust into a tumultuous landscape of high emotion, illicit secrets and life-shattering revelations. A shocking sequence of events leaves Katie, Trudi, Jessica and Siobhan on the precipice of an explosive dénouement that could ruin their friendship forever.

"We have been though a lot of emotional drama with the four friends and, with the new episodes offering lots of unexpected twists and turns, this series is set to be the most explosive yet!" - Bethan Jones, Executive Producer, BBC Wales

Mistresses will film in Bristol over eight weeks and is produced by Ecosse Films for BBC One. It was commissioned by Ben Stephenson, Controller Drama Commissioning, and Jay Hunt, Controller, BBC One. The series is once again produced by Rhonda Smith with Douglas Rae and Lucy Bedford executive producing for Ecosse Films and Bethan Jones executive producing for the BBC. The series will be directed by Tim Fywell.
