What was missing for me in this film

for me personally - AS A FILM (lets forget for a second the truth part of it) I thought it was kind of bland. Boy meets girl, boy kidnaps girl. girl escapes and gets a science degree.

Obviously what happened to her was really horrible and I wouldn't wish that on anyone but as a character I didn't really care for her too much because I knew she was going to be ok (it said so in the tv guide) so for 2 hours it was basically watching her being carted from one place to the other. What was really REALLY missing for me in this film was an insight into his character - why he took her - yeah, ok so he was lonely and wasn't hugged enough as a kid.. but I think that really could have been looked at in a lot more depth in the film.. I mean - going to the grandmas house seemed utterly pointless - the clip they chose to show didn't really tell you anything so why include it in the film?

I don't know if what i'm saying really makes sense - i know what I mean.. maybe I've seen too many documentaries, but to be honest I was more interested in finding out about him and what motivated him to do what he did, then watching him drive Anne around in a car and frowning for two hours.

I have to agree. I am seeing the movie for the first time tonight and its night time its late and frankly I don't think I even want to stay up any later to watch it. Its not just bland its rather boring. I read this other thread here where someone was saying the actors at least helped with the movie. Well its not helping me. I hate knowing this poor girl went through this but that doesnt mean a movie is interesting enough to keep someones eyes open long enough to watch it. Some things are better left alone without making a movie about it.
