love his flat

I watched this and was not much impressed, lots of scare mongering from Independant reading types,it might turn out good in the end but its too contrived at the moment.

But I loved his 1930s flat, anybody know where it is ?

reply

Was just thinking it looks like a block in Chiswick Park where my friend lived

reply

Thanks,I plan to win the lottery tonight and could do with a flat in London.

I agree with you to the most part. And, y'know, I've never really liked the Independant. The journalism is terrible - they can't even spell. I read The Independent myself. Robert Fisk [middle-east correspondent] what a guy! Yeah, the show certainly is contrived. It's no "Defence of the Realm" (correct British English spelling) [ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089009 ] that's for sure...

... and why name it after an old "Space 1999" episode?

"Oh look - a lovely spider! And it's eating a butterfly!"
'' ,,

"Eagle One - return to base"

I almost never read the INDY so excuse my spelling mistake.
Is the spelling I used the American spelling ?.

Fisk is just John Pilger without the open neck shirt,I loved his book about the Lebanon and his book on Ireland in World War 11 but Nick Cohen and Chistopher Hitchens have summed up his faults better than I ever could.

I dislke the Indy because while THE SUN is the paper that supports our boys the Indy is almost the paper that supports anybody who is fighting our boys.
The anti Americanism of the paper is racist.

I recall the Indy describing Keele University as remote because it was 3 hours from London by train.
Is the word Metrocentric?

The title THE LAST ENEMY was originally used for a book by RICHARD HILLARY a world war 11 RAF pilot who became a cult figure after the book became a best seller and he was killed in action.

If the Indy existed in 1940 they would have had articles about how government was not telling us everything about the conduct of the war and how we did not consider Hitler's good points.

OMG! Political points from a Sun reader....will the madness on this board ever stop?

At 9pm, I plan on watching a nice DVD I brought earlier on today and give this show a miss.

When the Beeb decides to give a series commission to something worthwhile give me a call.

You calling me a SUN reader?
Using SUN READER as a term of abuse is a bit 1980s is it not?

I mentioned the SUN to try and make the point that THE SUN always claims to be on the side of the British armed forces while I think the Indy always tries to be against the British army does.

I am not a SUN reader but the idea that everybody who reads the SUN is stupid and not worthy of having their opinions thought about is elitist.
Some people read THE SUN because they feel that it is the sort of papers people like them should read while lots of middle class people feel they have to read THE GUARDIAN and the INDY while not actually agreeing with the outlook of these papers or even understanding a lot of the articles.

Do you remember the scene in ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES ?
"it was in THE SUN,9 million people buy that paper ever day"
"yes but only half of them can read"

Perhaps we can agree that this programme is not very good.
Perhaps the people who made it should watch EDGE OF DARKNESS and learn how to make a complicated political thriller worth watching.

And my crime is? Using outdated insults?

I wasn't up for insulting anyone in the 80's, I was still eating my Ready Brek and getting ready for school, I am making up for lost time.

And yes, it is not a good drama.

Well, I'd hate to see your attempt to sum up Fisk's faults. It must be absolutely dreadful.

The title THE LAST ENEMY is originally a quote from the Bible,
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%2015:24-26 ;&version=31;
- "The last enemy to be destroyed is death".

So I don't rate the main character's chances of being left alive at the end!

reply

Thank you. It was quite bewildering to read the blog-battle over crediting the title. I assumed it was the quote from Corinthians which, being a translation by a British king, is surely the original reference for all the others. This series seemed to be a knee-jerk reaction to the British ID cards which - after a CD containing great quantities of that information went missing - made accuracy AND security moot points eventually. If anyone stored every bit of information, there would still be machines that break down, software with glitches, hackers to screw it up and criminals to get around it. If current surveillance worked so well, there could be no identify theft. Get a grip. Nothing, absolutely nothing, works with the perfect efficiency of this thriller; nothing human could. It is the inhuman perfection that is frightening and at the same time unbelievable. I suspect a less human enemy was required to be truly frightening, so we have the virus. I am not a fan of thrillers overall so any evaluation would be unfair, but this story line does not merit more episodes than those allotted.

Cholomley Park, which is in Highgate, London N6............it would probably cost £650000 to buy with £400 per month maintenance charges............

Thanks a lot for this.
I had better work some overtime and save up for this.
I love knowing where things are filmed.

yeah, that place was huge.

Yes! I came to comment on the apartment! I feel like I've seen it in some Poirot stories...the horizontal wavy-paned French doors between the rooms-- fantastic.

Having a hard time getting into the story, however...
