SIDE SHO wins Best Feature at Terror Film Festival 2007

Hello all,
We're happy to say that SIDE SHO won the Claw award for Best Feature Film at the Terror Film Festival this past week in Philadelphia. The fans in attendance really enjoyed the film & everyone had a great time. We also took home the award for best original score, so kudos to composer Leonard Wolf, as well. Thanks to all of you who worked on the movie for helping to make this all possible. Stay tuned to the official SIDE SHO MySpace page ( http://www.myspace.com/sideshothemovie) for pics from the event & more updates coming soon.

Best Feature Film? Give me a break. This "film" is just awful; A well worn plot, terrible acting and bad direction. Not worth the price of the rental.

It just shows how unimaginably bad the other movies there must of been.

****SPOILERS?****

It's a shame this movie didn't turn out better. The premise and story were good. The cinematography was good. The art direction was good. The directing also seemed competent though I don't know how much he was responsible for the problems listed below. And everyone seemed to be having a good time (based on the BTS extra).

But many things went wrong. First, how did it win Best Original Score? Though the score may have been fine technically, it rarely fit in with what was happening on screen which in turn really hurt the mood and suspense the film could have had.

Then there is the classic body double breast shot just thrown in so they could put "nudity" to drum up business. I'm all for nudity but it should not be a body double. You should get an actress daring enough to do it if you want it in there.

The inbred freaks do not look at all like products of inbreeding but rather they all look like burn victims. And most of them seem to be too highly functioning mentally (they can all read, write, speak in complete sentences, plan, scheme, etc.).

What's the deal with the lady in bed? From the story, she's supposed to be the kid's mother which would mean she's been locked up and abused by these people for over 10 years... yet her teeth were perfect, her face looked like she had been lost maybe a day in the woods, she looks well-fed, she's wearing hardly worn clothes and even bright white panties.

The editing is pretty painful. Count how many "match on actions" are not matches. Like the father running up to the family and stopping, cut to different angle of father still running up to family and stopping. You can see several of these instances as well as huge coninuity errors often with the blood. The pacing could have been better many times. You should have taken some of the CG money and paid an experienced editor.

The acting can mostly be forgiven because it was everyone's first real project but here's a tip, work on acting scared. It is the biggest downfall of most horror films. Sure you can scream and run and act tough when fighting back but when you're supposed to fear for your lives it looks more like you're afraid you'll be called on in math class.

Also, the blatent Bruce Campbell "homage" or ripoff. He looks like Bruce Campbell, tries to act like him, and at one point even says "Groovy."

Lastly, the use of CGI. Just because you have a competent CG person, doesn't mean you should use much of it. The CG snake was horrible and too much CG in the climax with the dangling wire.

The movie seemed good to me. Much better than I expected. I liked the ending too. Sure it was low budget, but it was a good one in my book.

This movie was so horrible it was hilarious. I was laughing pretty much the entire time. It was great for all of the wrong reasons.

I rented it over the weekend and I totally agree with you.I laughed several times too.Partly because the soundtrack was all wrong. How do you create suspense with a rocking guitar jam(the boat scene)? The movie is awful but still oddly entertaining.Like you said,"It was great for all the wrong reasons".I might actually watch it again before I take it back on Thursday.

Wow people are harsh on this movie. I thought it was actually an alright movie. Nothing special, but not bad. If you want BAD movies.. rent something from Ulli Lommel, or "New York Horror Film Festival," or Hallow's End.. well I can go on with a list but you get the point.

I could'nt agree more!!! the first thing I thought when i read that this won ANY kind of award ANYwhere was that it must have been the ONLY contender!! To be fair, i thought the opening credits were well done and was fairly interested until the first scene where the girl w/the blonde polyester wig wakes up... It was over before it started..

I am amazed it won best score... it was actually the weakest part of the movie. I liked the movie OK enough, but that score was just the pits. Grats though.

If you don't mind me asking, could you please explain a bit more what happened? My friend and I stopped the movie the minute it started the credits.

They showed the blonde girl running through the woods again she bumbs into someone and gasps and wakes up with the family in the van just like at the beginning of the movie. Her friend turns to her and asks, "Are you okay?" and she replies, "Yeah, just one messed up dream!"
