so it's true that....

john druitt is officially dead?? do you think they'll have an episode to actually tie up his storyline?

reply

OMg I don't know!!! I didn't think he was dead. Actually I've been waiting all season for him to return because I love the Magnus/Druitt tension. Magnus has died like three times, Will is up around five, so I just assumed Druitt was fine after last season. Then I read this interview with Christopher Heyerdahl and he says Druitt is dead.
What?!?!?!? I'm so depressed.
But it's sci fi so nothing's keeping him from coming back.

But in this interview Amanda said she doesn't know what happened to Druitt, so I think TPTB have yet decided his fate, which I think will be addressed in Season 5, if there is one.

This is the link to the interview:

She sounded like Druitt isn't dead. As was the case with AD, I think CH was filming other stuff this past season so he wasn't as available.

The part of the interview that worried me is that in the past the series has been renewed by now.

reply

CH was off playing the Swede in Hell on Wheels so I guess they had to adjust his schedule. At any rate, they can still find a way to bring him back.

Erhm, what? You do realize that CH plays both Big Guy and Druitt in this show? Two characters, not one. And Big Guy appears in nearly ever episode, so something like a "schedule conflict" definitely could not exist!

reply

Oh yay that makes me so happy (that Amanda Tapping says Druitt's not dead.) I was really surprised when Christopher Heyerdahl said he was, but now I feel better. Yay Sanctuary!

reply

I'm kinda confused... I thought the last time we saw Druitt, he was just standing in the ruins of Hollow Earth, left behind when Magnus followed Worth backward to 1898.

Surely he could have just teleported out of there? I know there were some SPOTS in Hollow Earth that dampened his power, but couldn't he have walked around until he found a spot with 'better reception'? I thought Kate was down IN Hollow earth, rebuilding.. so it's not a DEADLY area?

I don't like the fact they'd just kinda TWEET that "Oh; by the way, Druitt died." He was just about my favorite character on the show.. so I will be pretty annoyed if that's just 'it' for Druitt.

Have I missed something in an ep? I didn't watch "Fugue"...

Sometimes fires don't go out when you're done playin' with them.

reply

I'm surprised that would have killed him too. But they killed Bigfoot, his other character, so perhaps the actor decided to leave the show.

reply

Perhaps not.

Biggie is a regular character and Druitt isn't. So if CH does want to spend more time on Hell on Wheels and keep showing up on Sanctuary at the same time it would be better for him to cast as Druitt then Biggie.

reply

Did they really kill Biggie? For me it felt as if they deliberately left it ambigious. Biggie wasn't dead in the last scene we saw it, so he could be alive. :)

reply

Biggie looked pretty dead. I thought they had dumped his body in the Sanctuary and then Magnus blew the place up.

I think the actor must have some other commitments that conflict with filming Sanctuary. But if those commitments don't pan out and the show is renewed, I'm sure they could work around Druitt/Biggie being dead.

reply

It's been announced that the actor has a recurring role on True Blood and a recurring role on Supernatural. I think that probably means he's too busy. So if the series gets renewed, Biggie is probably dead, because he's always around. But Druitt could be presumed dead and then show up later.

reply

I get the feeling that Chris H. really wants to move on to other things, but at the same time will not walk out on Sanctuary if it gets renewed. Part of it is the fact that he is gaining popularity and getting offered many other roles, but I also think that as an actor he probably feels like he's maybe gone as far as he can go with his characters on Sanctuary but is reluctant to come out and say it. He does sort of hint at it in his interview if you read between the lines.

I would love if he could at least continue to be Biggie every now and then and perhaps come back for the occasional flashback episode pertaining to the history of the five. Chris H. does an amazing job regardless of whether he's slashing it up as Jack the Ripper or giving people light concussions on a daily basis as Biggie, but Biggie is often on the sidelines of the action and Druitt is only a recurring character. I can see why he'd be interested in exploring other options right now. I will be sad if both characters end up dead, but I also respect it when dead characters stay dead instead of trying to come up with some phony explanation for how they came back. If it's believable, great, if it's not then don't bother, I say. It increases the sense of urgency when watching the show to know that when a character is in danger something bad might actually happen. I like that.
