Was season 3 any good?

I'm not trying to stir up trouble, but I found season 2 awful and stopped watching. Was season 3 more of that, or was it more watchable?

I'm hoping that season 2 was a low point.

I watched another episode of season 2, and realized what bothers me about this show.

The episode was Penance, s2e9. In it, a violent abnormal gang boss chases Kate and guest Jimmy (the excellent Michael Shanks). The boss captures Will, and believing Jimmy to be on the loose, tortures Will.

All the while, demanding Will tell him where Jimmy was. Because Magnus must know, right? And Will must know everything Magnus knows.

Nevermind that if Magnus knew, Jimmy would have been picked up by now and safely in the Sanctuary.

This is, in a single scene, the problem with this show. The writing is lazy. Characters motivations and actions just don't make sense. It's like there's been no effort at all to tell a logical story. It's like someone has said "Well, it's science fiction. The story doesn't have to make sense."

If they'd wanted Will to be tortured in this episode to raise the stakes, they could have done so without making the writing team look like morons.

Any ONE of the below would have done it:
- Henry: "Why is he torturing Will?" Magnus: "It doesn't matter. We need to get him out of there." (Acknowledge the insanity, or "hang a lantern on it.")
- Will: "I swear, I don't know where Jimmy is!" Boss: "I know, but I enjoy this too much." (The boss realizes his actions don't help solve the real problem.)
Even:
- Boss: "Bring me Will, I'm too tense." (The boss doesn't really care about the real problem, but only wants some satisfaction.)

Basically, anything other than the boss torturing Will and demanding an answer that the boss *knew* Will didn't have. Ugh. It's painful to watch this level of bad writing. The cast is wonderful, the stories inventive. I have no problem suspending my disbelief for the abnormals, but suspending it to get moustache-twirling bad guys with no motivation?

Despite a 20 min detour to tvtroops.org I still don't see why that is a plothole.
