I know that, believe me I know all about the draft - I guess I should have said it that I found it odd that in him talking about his teen-age year he never mentioned military service or the possibility of military service given the time frame. Poor phrasing on my part.
shareIf you remember in the documentary, Tom Petty talked a bandmate into joining his band instead of going to college. The bandmate said he could get a draft deferment if he was enrolled in college and Tom said "Don't worry, we'll take care of that." Apparently Tom had some way of avoiding military service. It's kind of interesting too because 68' to 69' was like the worst years for casualties.
