graduated probably 1968...I just wonder then if he didn't go to college why he wasn't drafted?

Also, what did the Mudcrutch band members do when they left after not being picked up?

I know that, believe me I know all about the draft - I guess I should have said it that I found it odd that in him talking about his teen-age year he never mentioned military service or the possibility of military service given the time frame. Poor phrasing on my part.

If you remember in the documentary, Tom Petty talked a bandmate into joining his band instead of going to college. The bandmate said he could get a draft deferment if he was enrolled in college and Tom said "Don't worry, we'll take care of that." Apparently Tom had some way of avoiding military service. It's kind of interesting too because 68' to 69' was like the worst years for casualties.

Not everybody got drafted. They would reach in a barrel and take out names.
If your number came up, they sent you off.

The draft is a compulsory lottery, where the prize really sucks.
