bias

is it just me or did it seem like Jimmy and Doug were sometimes under-trained or mis-trained or treated badly or given training too brutal on purpose, so that they would lose against their own champs, and even in the final fights victories were not given when they should have been?

The entire Israel episode was crap to me. No real sport in that stuff, it's just eye gouging, throat punching, kicking in the nuts, etc.. There was no point sending Jimmy and Doug there because they are proper fighters and I doubt they learned any techniques there. I also think they probably were under trained there, and probably were badly treated. It looked like that to me anyway. I do think they really try to sensationalise the show though. The series started ok, but it gets a bit more sensationalised as it goes on. And by the end, Jimmy is screaming like a baby, and they are using shaky wobbly camera in the fights and stuff, all to try to add something to the show - when it doesn't really need it.

All the other places though, I thought were very good. The boys picked up a few injuries, but that is just from intensive training. I don't think anything was bias. I think these are a couple of young guys with very little skill and training, and are basically beginners at martial arts - at least compared to all the people in these shows. Doug for example, picked up martial arts in around 2004 or so.. Most of the people they fight and spar with in the show, are dedicated martial artists who have been doing it most of their life..

All the training they were given was good training, fair, helpful, and then in all the fights, it really tested them and taught them something, and they all went easy on the two boys.

You have to remember that they only had about a week at the most at these places. There is no way someone can learn to beat someone like a professional Shaolin Monk in a week.

There is also no way most of these life long devoted martial artists would ever lose to the likes of Doug and Jimmy. So if there was any bias or anything like that at all, I would say it is to make it look more like a close fight - when really... it isn't.

Yeah that stuff in Israel was effed up. They were just all about fighting dirty. They kept kicking Jimmy in his bad leg on purpose over and over again. There's no sportsmanship in that. That's pu$sy, and disrespectful. Little girls and punks do stuff like eye gauge and nut punch as a first reaction to a non-lethal threat. There's no honor in Krav Maga. I feel like Kajukenbo was much more respectful in their applications of such techniques.

If its a life and death struggle then honour is often looked at differently.
You may care to look at it differently though as strategy or gamesmanship is also integral to the fight.

The Krav Maga episode was pretty interesting though, reminded me a little of Ninjutsu training where we used to get attacked by two or three people at once!

I did not like the krav maga episode either. That woman was insane. She punched Doug not telling him she was going to do it, later in a fight, Doug was almost unconscious and they asked him "Are you ok?" That was ridiculous. I am sure she was insane. I think she said she was doing that since she was 7 years old or something, plus living in a country where a bomb explodes in every corner... What can you expect? There is another episode, I think it was the BJJ one where Doug was almost choked for real! Anyway, I understand the krav maga system was not intended to be honorable or "sporty". If you talk with any krav maga instructor they all say it is not a martial "art" or a sport but a self-defense system instead where you have to fight for survival including dirty tricks.

I am not sure but it seems they were trying to make the show as brutal as possible on purpose. The guys were brave but they suffered for real (hey, man, didn't you know that bruises are internal injuries?). I bet that is the reason why this show was cancelled, the same happened to Human Weapon. I mean, they probably thought about legal issues: what if the guy passes away or get a permanent damage doing this? Remember that Human Weapon last dance ended up with Bill being knocked out and Jason with a knee sprained.
