I need help from an expert in Martial art! Thank you!

I am not really into Martial Arts so I hope there is some help to find on this border. I need a martial art that can help me fight a lot of bandies. Imagine yourself being in a situation where 7 guys where about to beat the crack out of you. Do you have any idea what kind of martial art would work in this kind of situation?

Also, you hear a lot of what kind of crab kungfu, aikido and all the others stuff would never work for you in a real situation. Any suggestion? I don't want to spend time at something that doesn't work. I have heard that Keysi Fighting Method is something of a real (born on the street). Someone? Please help!

Thank you!

kali/eskrima made on the streets to fight for your life, turn any object into a weapon. unfortunately, it is also quite deadly

From my experience Krav Maga, Ninjutsu and Aikdo will practise/teach practitioner's how to 'try' and deal with multiple opponents. However, it is important to understand that this problem, should it arise can be overcome by running very fast in the opposite direction! If this is not an option you could attempt to take out the nearest opponent and then use that space to run into and hopefully escape!
Realistically, it is very unlikely that an experienced martial artist could defeat seven opponents.

I would say Krav Maga or Silat. They're effective for fighting mutiple opponents but doesn't translate to well into combat sports though.

alot of the styles mentioned are helpful if you can find a school in that style but where I live its unrealistic. Look into Karate, i studied uechi-ryu in which we practiced the bunkai (some people call it a kumite, thanks to van dam movies) which taught you to deal with multiple opponents. Its a kata for the most part which is a staged set of movements but its developed to take your mind out of the fight and train the muscles and instinct to respond to whats thrown at you, thats why we do it over and over again. Another style i practiced was Kenpo (Kempo, its just translation) which is considered Chinese Street Fighting. Very effective for multiple fighters, its based on faster movements and blocks or dodging. Karate was more about being able to take the hit and dish out high amounts of damage. In short if your fast and dont like to get hit take Kenpo, if your built stronger or stockier and can dedicate a lot of time to making your body caloused take karate.

it shows that you have no experience of martial arts. To say that "youve heard" that a type of kungfu or aikido does not work on the streets is rubbish. Dont listen to others, try it for your self.

For example, In kungfu you are taught Sanda, which is a chinese form of kick boxing, you are also taught other things, all of which are deadly . All martial arts will work in real life if you practive them well and use them wisely. Granted some may work better than others, but all should teach you how to fight and defend. Even Tai Chi is a deadly martial art when p[ractised well.

But, to learn a martial art purely for fighting is pointless. Use it to promote health and well being too, dont think that by studying a style you will be able to see results instantly, it takes years!

All arts can be deadly in the right hands.

what about painting?

Funny story, "Gongfu" actually means mastery of anything through rigorous training, so you COULD have Gongfu in painting. Don't know how lethal it would be.

Go for Krav Maga or Wing Tsun. But take your time and try different schools. Some are...less good then others.

I had this Krav Maga instructor who thought that punches were less important then grappling and this Wing Tsun teacher who at some point answered a question he did not know the answer to (it was about a countergrappling technique) with "At some point the body just reaches it's limit". But it was a trick question and I actually knew two ways out of that grapple. Which is basically one more piece of advise. Prepare some situations (like "What do I do if I get tackled from the side/ 3 guys come at me and two of them grap my hands/ ...") and ask the teachers for specific techniques and compare those techniques to the ones given by other schools.

So I would say, go to some schools, check them out and compare.

But whatever you do KEEP AWAY FROM ANYTHING WITH TOURNAMENTS. In styles with tournaments the trainers tend to not teach the techniques that are forbidden in tournaments and those are usually the most effective ones (Kicks in the groin, strickes to the neck/ back of the head, ...).

it depends very largely on what you're good at. if you can take pain and very hard training, then you should try Kyukoshinkai. I do Wado-Ryu, which is also Karate, but completely different. different arts are meant for different things and good for different people in different situations. some are just for traditionalism nowadays - like swordfighting - whilst some are sports oriented and others are on self defense. unless you want to get in the ring, pick one that is based on self defence. also try a few first, pick one that suits you. my suggestions are Krav Mage, Jeet Kune Do, Kali. i don't know much about them - the dojos where i live are very limited and i go to the best one, if not the one with the most 'useful' style, but i know they're 'realistic' as you put it - less flash, more practicality. depends entirely on your intentions and your strengths - size, flexibility, endurance, heck even how much you're afraid of getting badly hurt...

7 opponents: Sounds hard but forget about that.
There is no martial art or good method to take out 7 fighters at once. If you fight against 2-3 fighters you hardly have any chance, now 7 guys... here it doesn't matter if just 2-3 of them are real fighters with experience and tecnics (don't underestimate street fighters) and the rest are just normal bullies.

With a lot of luck and experience you could try to become a fighter of Muay Thai, MMA, Jeet Kune Do, Krav Maga, Haganah (!),... that is going to improve your chances against 1+ attackers but there is no guarantee that you are going to win a real street fight because in street fights everything is possible and allowed. Anything can happen. You hit a parking car with the back or your head or some protruding concrete - you go KO instantly. Your opponent takes any weapon lying around like a club, a brick, a bottle, whatever - you're *beep* There Krav Maga and Eskrima can halp you but the chances are still against you.

There is no superman martial art.

If you REALLY want to fight 7 guys and have some kind of chance of success, you must fight armed: with a blade weapon, pepper spray, a torch or a gun, whatever. + use armour, sounds crazy but fighting 7 guys is crazy. Buy yourself a modern Dyneema or chain vest - that will protect very important parts of your body from slashes and stabs.
Also if you want to fight as long as to beat 7 guys you maybe should look out for some drugs that help shut of your pain receptors AND staying concentrated. I'm not into drugs so there I can't help you, I also don't know any drugs that would not *beep* your mind up and just shut off your pain receptors.

All that sounds crazy but so does the idea of winning a fight against 7 guys.

Ah yeah, and don't expect any great results from Martial Arts under years of hard training. It just doesn't work that way.

it's very hard to fight 7 guys if you are a beginner. it's hard even for a master.
like in everything, if you want to do something good every time, you need to practice ... a lot! personally, i suggest, if you wanna study several martial arts, you should study only the stiles of a certain culture, since it would help you better. all the moves from different stiles are influenced by certain things, and since you just said that you don't have experience ... i suggest you do this. so if you want to study chinese martial arts , do wushu and wing tsu, if you want to study korean martial arts study tae kwon do and hapkido.

personally i think the japanese system of martial arts it's simpler and more effective, and a mixture of aikido and kyokushin would give you the best results. aikido is very good when it comes to agility , defense and movement "on the battle ground" and kyokushin is perfect when it comes to attack, strenght and damage inflicted to enemies.

also, i strongly suggest that you should practice these 2 until you rich a black belt and only after that you should try to combine these 2. at least this is an advice from my sensei.

!4 the rest !
Krav maga is deadly , but if you really want a deadly style search for this video on the net:

If seven guys are about to beat the crap out of you, you're pretty much in trouble no matter what martial art you know. At that point, skills as a sprinter would probably come in handier.

One of the most honest comments I ever heard Chuck Norris make was that if you were fighting five or more guys, you are going to lose (at least if those guys have any aggressiveness to them, they could be a bunch of wimps afraid to jump in).

But if its going to happen, Krav Maga might be the best to use. Brazilian Jui Jitsu is great against one opponent, but not so much with multiple attackers.

Jeet Kune Do is also supposed to be pretty good against multiple attackers, but good luck finding anyone who teaches it if you're not in a large metropolitan area.

The key to taking on multiple attackers would be to somehow string them out, so that you are only facing one or two at a time. Unfortunately, unlike the movies were multiple attackers almost always seem to wait their turn, a group of attackers will probably just rush you and overwhelm you.

Check out the Fight Quest episode where they study Krav Maga. In fact, look on Utube and you'll find a clip from the show that's entitled something like "Krav Maga 1." In that clip, they have six or seven attackers rush Jimmy all at once, and he's driven back and/or onto the floor each time.

Sheer numbers will overwhelm almost anyone. If they just pile on, you're a gonner.

I´ve done self-defence for a couple of years now. I was learning various techniques from karate, judo, aikido and som krav maga as well. But number one lesson they teach you: If there are more then two, run! Honestly, unless you have a pepper spray/teargas/broadsword on you, you´ll get the *beep* kick out of you. But that doesn´t mean that martial arts are usless. You should definitely do some, it´s great for one´s fitness, reflexes, health and confidence.
But if you have to fight, I would I would suggest aikido. Especially for scaring guys away. If you knock the strongest one of the group on the floor and twist his arm in such an angle, that it´s about to be ripped off, the rest might just change their minds. If you´re about to fight a couple of fearless drunks, go for krav maga- it´s designed for real-life combat with some nasty results.
