No1 Got These Jokes!?

Ok, did anyone get these jokes? I laughed in the cinema when no1 else did!

Slutty Posh Totty: "Thats quite a mouthful. Soon ill be HEAD girl."
Emphasis on the head!!

Stephen Fry: Something along the lines of "there must be more than doing quiz shows. Well, only brits would get this, but he presents QI...

Receptionist: "When Im on a come down..."
This is when you stop taking drugs.

There where more which I forgot. :D

No1 in the theatre got these!. I looked like an idiot :D
Did anyone else?
Thanks

Were you laughing at these jokes becuse you've got some sort of laughing tourettes? I think everyone else who wasn't laughing mainly thought it was an unfunny waste of time.
I feel sorry for anyone who sees this contender for worst film of 2008.

seriously those have got to be the most obvious jokes ever how could anyone not get them?

she just got up, broke wind and died

reply

i got them and thought they were funny! maybe coz i went to a boarding school i related to the things but it was a very funny film with some great references...my friends and i were the only ones in the screen laughing when colin firth came on in his wet shirt...we thought that was brilliant! hehe!

ST TRINIANS!!! xxx

reply

Yes, I agree, not getting the "jokes" and not thinking they're funny are too different things. Blowjob jokes aren't exactly the height of flashing wit. Perhaps a certain age of person (not saying this in an insulting way, it's just a fact) find such things amusing if hearing them for the first time, but they're a big bore for most everyone else.

reply

> maybe coz i went to a boarding school

are you telling us you were giving head there or what? lol... i enjoyed this movie :)

@backofthevan: i completely agree. i think those jokes are funny but not in the sense of laughing-out-loud but just giving a smile on your face. like the whole movie was. some reviewer summed it up pretty good. not a big laughfest but just enjoyable with some stylistic (funny) scenes IMO

reply

Worst film of 2007.

but then again most british films are crap.

reply

Bit harsh mate, Atonement is pretty good. Although just watching crap like St Trinians does put a downer on watching future british films anyway. I read today they're making "Carry On to the next round" can any film be any crapper?!?! You can just tell the direness....leave the Carry Ons to the 50's,60's and 70's please.

reply

It wasnt that I was immature enough to laugh at the jokes, It was funny how they'd managed to slip them into what was meant to be a girly film. The wet shirt moment was pretty funny though.

And stop insulting British films! Have you not seen Chariots of Fire and others?

reply

Have you seen Death At A Funeral? Or History Boys?
Both fantastic British comedies. I'm Aussie and I loved them both.

reply

Ouch, that's a harsh statement you made there, dude.
There re quite a few British films that I like, Atonement is of of them. And 'Run Fatoy Run' is quite nice to watch too

Got it, didn't really laugh.

Stephen Fry: Something along the lines of "there must be more than doing quiz shows."
Got it, probably one of the only times I laughed during this film.

Receptionist: "When Im on a come down..."
Is that even a joke?

"I like my coffee black, just like my metal."

There were also several 'in' jokes on Colin Firth's career, if you know his movies a bit you would get them.

1. When Camilla and Geoffrey first meet up at the school and they are talking - The question is asked what happened to us. Camilla says "It was another time" Geoffrey says, 'it was 'Another Country'
This was the first movie Everett and Firth did together (1984)

2. Geoffrey throws Mr. Darcy (the dog here) out the window and kills him. A reference to killing off the Darcy thing.

3. The painting in question (to be stolen) is a Vermeer, (whom Colin played) Girl With a Pearl Earring (starred Colin).

4. When he drops his pants in the girls room, that is a reference to something he did in 'Hope Springs'

5. The ants all over him - 'Trauma'

6. The fountain - Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

7. Walking in wet white shirt (with jacket over his arm) and slow motion - Pride and Prejudice.

8. At the quiz, one of the questions asked is "This 19th century novel was originally named 'First Impressions.' What do we know it as today?"
No one got this answer in the movie and Colin/Geoffrey stands up and rolls his eyes (with a mild sigh) and walks out.
The answer, of course, is Pride and Prejudice.

9. You could account for the nude back shot as something from Playmaker... if you were so inclined.

They did these send-ups of his career on purpose. I thought they were the funny parts. And I may have missed some, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, right now.

I don't know why the script writers went to all the trouible of putting in all this clever/witty references...when, according to the OP, all that's needed are a few lame, adolescent 'blow job' gags and a casual reference to drug use to get the target audiences (12-15 yr olds) rolling in the aisles....

This film is a travesty of the good name of St Trinian's....

reply

I loved the hints on Colin Firth's career, especially the slow motion wet shirt scene was hilarious and I can#t belive that they weren't intentional since the make up a big part of the script.

PS: not very hidden because the girls mention his name: when they first see the painting they go like "now I know why Colin Firth wanted to shag her." (Girl with pearl earring)

reply

I'm from australia and there were tweens that didn't understand it.
i understood the jokes, frankly i was ,along with my friend and people my age in the cinema laughed at the jokes, and the non-intentional colin firth references. It was an okay movie, although they could of developed the story more. Some bits seemed messy.

I did laugh at Mr Fritton/FLash Harry's scenes LOL, i was the only one in the cinema laughing at Bayern Munich line (quite embarrasing). I found that funny. But no one in the cinema knew what Bayern was until fritton said it was a football club.

Thank you! I kept laughing at these references and my cousin thought I was crazy...I will have to show your post to prove that I'm not (well just Crazy for Colin).

Thanks again

I'm in Australia and I still got those jokes!

Go take a step outside - see what’s shaking in the real world.

reply

I'm also in Australia. I saw it about an hour ago. I thought it was hilarious. but half the time i was the only person laughing. None of my other friends were laughing either. I just liked all the random stuff in it, lol.
I'm a 16y/o male too, so it may seem strange that i liked this movie.

reply

i jus saw the movie today cause it only came out the last week and i was the only one laughing at all the jokes and i was the only one singing along to the music

reply

We got them, they just weren't funny enough to laugh.

On the wall just below Colin Firth's name at the beginning is written "fights like a girl" this refers to the fighting scenes in BJ Diary and BJ The Edge of Reason.
Also Anna Chancellor stands between Colin and Rupert and the expression when she ask if they know each other is just like What a Girl Wants.

I am an Aussie and I really enjoyed this film.

reply

I'm from NZ and I really enjoyed the film! And everyone I heard in the movies seemed to get the jokes I don't see how some people can't (or are just rather sad and have no humour please lighten up).

reply

I got the jokes and i found some of them cleaver because it was mostly for tweens so they wouldnt (well i hope them wont) have gotten some of the 'adult' content another example of course is the drug refernce of poppers and with the dog on his leg. i found it a very good movie something different for once

reply

I got all of them apart from the head girl one =S

My business aint your business, so unless you're my thong dont be up my arse!

How could you not get the jokes -- this film beats you over the head with its punchlines.

Utter rubbish!

reply

I really liked this,.. I liked the jokes. they where used before and even though the concept is done before I really liked it.

Joker:They don't make straitjackets like they used to. I should know.

reply

i think i was the only one who gt most of da jokes, half da tym i was rolling round on da floor laughing n every1 thought i was off ma nutter but its hilarious tho all da mini jokes at colin firth were classic and everything was sooooo funi esp da P&P part no one got that and i thought it was funi az lol

also i love da fact rupert and colin had a lovey dovey scene (if you can call it that) at the end and that lol dats classic filmmaking at its peak how can it get any more

the sequel has got alot to live up to

reply

i loved the movie, the best i have seen in ages. I dont know why so many people didnt like it, i thought it was awesome. They must be old and think thet schools like that should be banned from the screen(thats what my gran thought)

reply

I went to boarding school in New Zealand (where we played hockey - i loved how they played hockey in the movie), I went to see it with a group of friends i went to boarding school with and all of us had a ball! it was completely over the top, but you could still see similarities to the school that i went to, which was great! loved all the references to past films of Colin and Rupert. if you are looking for a piece of quality british drama (by the sounds of it a lot of people on this board were) you are going to be disappointed, but if you want something that is purely there to entertain and a film that you dont have to think too hard about, then this is great. Maybe im a bit biased, i prefer english TV and films to most american ones (before anyone gets all defensive, remember, i didnt say i didnt like american films and TV) 8/10 - if you take yourself too seriously you wont like this movie - come on people lighten up, have a laugh :)

reply

I think most of the comments on here are by people too young to be familiar with the original (and far superior) St Trinian's films of the 50's and 60's but for me the most subtle and endearing thing in the whole film was the fact that hanging on the wall in the Headmistress' study was a portrait of Alistair Sim as the original Miss Millicent Fritton from the 1957 'Belles of St Trinian's' and the bust that Annabelle smashed when she whacked the mobile phone with her hockey stick was also of Alistair Sim as Miss Fritton.

A really nice touch totally wasted on it's target audience..

most people these days are very stupid - which is why most people didn't find this film funny.

reply

I agree with Alicex. This film seems to have a low rating on imdb, but I think that's mostly from US voters who just don't get the humour. I'm English and I love it, as I loved all the original films with Alastair Sim. I've watched it several times and it's grown on me each time, I "get" all the jokes even the ones I don't think are very funny (not many). And the girls are all beautiful, I especially like Lily Cole as Polly, Gemma Arterton as Kelly, and Juno Temple as Celia. Russell Brand was a revelation, I'd been nervous of him taking the part of Flash Harry, but I thought he was spot on. The only criticism I have is that Rupert Everett's accent as Camilla was so clipped it hard to decipher sometimes! I preferred him as Carnaby.

I thought the movie was a bit slow and quite cliche'd but I watched it all in one go and I chuckled out loud a couple of times.

Apparently not times that made anyone else smile but I enjoyed simple little things like when the goth girl was afraid to cross in the National Gallery then jumped on after the Chav causing the rope to strain. The silly way she cowardly did it was funny.

I also remember laughing out loud close to the beginning when Annabel is at the bottom of the stairs and the bell rings, there is a slight rumbling and a single little girl runs down the stairs clutching her doll. Annabel starts to raise a foot up the stairs when suddenly she battered and shoved around by a mob of students. I had the exact thing happen to me on my first day at a new school (well not the light rumbling or the little girl but the mob seeming to appear out of nowhere). That was classic!

I didn't expect some brilliantly intelligent film- after all it's St. Trinian's! I expected what I got, a few cute laughs.

Additionally there were some things I just couldn't help notice such as Camilla's resemblence to the Duchess of Cornwall and Firth's character's daughter, the bully's resemblence to Zara Phillips.

reply

haha i'm amoung the many aussies here!! I most definitely got all the jokes previously mentioned, but I know of at least one that alot of people (universally) would have seen, that I thought was hilarious, when the one of the twins blows up the entire shed, and the other says 'You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!!' Aah...the italian job. St Trinians and that, both AWESOME movies :D

reply

Another thing that hasn't been pointed out here is that as well as Miss Fritton being a bit like Camilla Parker-Bowles, her brother Carnaby's accent sounded pretty much like an impression of Prince Charles.
