Are there no TEEN actresses in Britain?

Most of these girls are in their twenties.

Isn't that usually the case with teen movies/tv shows? Most of the "teens" in Gossip Girl, High School Musical, etc, are in their twenties. Hell, some of the 'kids' in Grease were in their 30s!

The UK teen show 'Skins' makes a point of casting the right age (16-18) for the characters, and recent UK films like 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' and 'Fish Tank' have teenage actresses in the leads, so it varies.

I think it's a combination between child working laws and a lack of opportunities for young actors/actresses, I think homegrown kids programmes have been reduced a lot and it's reducing the acting opportunities for kids.

sure, part of it is the laws about minors being on sets for certain amounts of time. but think about it? do we really have to corrupt ALL youth?! i mean, look at what "the biz" did to all those child stars in the US! do the names christopher pettiet, drew barrymore, and corey feldmen (not to mention THE WHOLE CAST of diff'rent strokes) ring a bell?
i KNOW you're not suggesting that you'd prefer a repeat of THOSE lives...

Most "teenage" actors in America are also in their twenties as others have said. Here's what's different about this movie though.

The sexy-looking girls in this movie (i.e. the head girl, the "posh toddies") are blatantly, obviously NOT teenagers. While the girls in this movie who obviously ARE teenagers (or younger) are not sexy looking (just like most real teenagers) or really sexualized.

In American/Hollywood movies though they try to find really ridiculously sexy girls (usually in their early twenties) who they can conceivably pass off as "teenagers", all so they can encourage real-life teenagers to become more obsessed than they already are with sex and encourage adult males to become sexually obsessed with real-life under-aged girls. So why exactly is that better?

So Kristen Bell looked like a 16-year old in Veronica Mars? Do you remember the flashback where she got pigtails to look like a 15-year old?

In the original films, the older girls are played by young women as well. Part of the joke, you see...

Unlike Ferris Bueller's Day Off where the three 16-year olds were played by a 21-year old, a 24-year old and a 31-year old?

Adults always play teens since folks like Saoirse Ronan who are naturals without drama school do not grow on trees.
