What is up with Mischa Barton's accent?

Is she supposed to be British? Because she sure didn't sound like it!

It was a pretty pointless cameo.

No, I don't think she's supposed to be English at all. She sounds pure American to me. Why shouldn't an American go to the school after all?

reply

I didn't say Americans shouldn't or couldn't go to a British school. What I'm really saying is Mischa looks like a lazy actress.

reply

Nah, she's just a *beep* one

reply

The funniest part of it all is that Mischa Barton IS british lol, pretty sad i think.

reply

she clearly had an american accent, unless you cant distinguish and american from an english

She really is a *beep* actress.

reply

That's just her accent, she grew up in London when she was younger. Her accent was really strange though, mixed-up.

i think the whole part of her accent was that she was a british girl who made it big and was in america.... thats why she was talking to peaches chelsea and chloe. thats the reason they were the ones doing the contest because they wanted exposure to become a big star like she had... well thats how i took it anyway.

reply

Clearly she was trying to do an english accent but failed. If the character had only just made it big in america her accent would still be english she wouldn't have been there long enough to develop an american accent. Mischa Barton sucks balls

reply

It sounded Austrailian to me...with an American Twang

I'm Australian, and Barton's accent sounded nothing like a general Australian accent to me. As other users have previously put forward, I think she was going for a British one, but it didn't turn out quite well. I thought her character was underdeveloped and a waste of screen time, frankly.

Actually, Mischa Barton is a catalyst exposing petty jealousies of the deeply envious. YOU!

Many peoples accents are pretty mixed. I am British with a Yorkshire accent, but if I spend a few days with someone who has a different accent then people who know me say my accent changes and I pickup bits of the other persons accent. Of course I will still sound Yorkshire to people who are not used to my normal accent.

Also when I spent time working in a call centre my accent got less Yorkshire as I was forced to speak more clearly so that people could understand me who were not from Yorkshire.

Personally, I did not consider Mischa Bartons accent American. I have heard British accents that did sound fake to me, from people who do live over here. Everyones accent is slightly different and in this multi-cultural world its hard to narrow down any particular one, as we watch so much American TV even a pure-British accent can get Americanised somewhat.

I think she was attempting to play a British girl, attempting to do a general American accent. Thats why it sounded overly American in some words, but you could still hear the British accent in others? Does this make sense?

reply

I think it was her British accent sneaking in being around all those British people. It happens..

reply

Yes, I think she was! It was very weird and not good at all.

reply

Wasnt she supposed to be an American who had been in England for a while? If so her accent was good, i know quite a few Americans who have lived here for a while (my partner included) and they all have messed up weird accents like that! neither here nor there...

reply

im sure it was the other way around.
She was head girl remember, and went of to america to do her acting or hosting thing so it would of been her doing some mix up accent

Where abouts was she in the film?
I don't remember her!

Joss Stone is another faux-accentee, she's only been in the states for 5 minutes but over there you have to adopt their accent otherwise everyone says "What what?" to you every 5 seconds due to their lack of cultural learning. Now when she comes back home she sounds like a complete tw@.

Sounded like she was trying to do an English accent but failed.

reply

yeah I agree with century-letters. She was going in and out of one, but was like bleh eventually..
