That's good that it didn't influence you. But answer me this? Is there a girl you know in your school or who will watch this and think the Trinian squad are cool.....?

i also LOVED it!! and won't be running off to buy our suspender belts and air rifles to attack the world!

lighten up all...its just a laugh!! it meant to be a break from school and lessons, not one itself!

reply

The first bit was slightly cringe-worthy, but once they decided on the heist thing I actually enjoyed it. Rupert everett/colin firth broke my brain, the the wet shirt thing made me giggle, and you goota love stephen fry... oh yeah. And russel brand was brilliant! (I also want his waistcoat).
Yes I am a 17 year old girl, so perhaps i'm the target audience, but it wasn't /that/ bad, I think people need to realise we arn't ALL brainless idiots who coipy what we see on the screen.

reply

chocolate_cookie_crumble summed it up perfectly.

The first part was not promising, but Russell Brand was in it so I was distracted enough. And when the heist began, I really got into it! I wanted them to succeed.

Honestly, I don't think the trailer did this film justice. I had no high hopes after watching the previews, so I just went to see it for Russell... I'm so glad I took the risk!

Yes, it was lame, and badly acted, but it was fun and loud and ridiculous and it starred Russell Brand, Colin Firth and Rupert Everett. British eyegasm!

The 'unsuitable' themes, I think, were subtle enough to be lost on a younger audience for whom it WOULD be unsuitable. The adults seemed to be making the subtle references obvious with their outraged exclamations.

Oh yeah, I'm 17. The girls in the film were mostly my age, and I hope we know better than to follow their example.

reply

yeah i guess there will be people who think they are cool, but trust me no one will be bothered to go out and dress in garters and stockings or particularly want to!
i go to a private girls school anyway which is i guess basically the way st trinians 'should be' haha.
i think the closest thing to wanting to be a st trinian to anyone i reckon would be to probs have a 'st trinians party' or something where ur suppose to dress like that or something haha
some of my friends thought it didnt live up to the hype anyway though.. lol

reply

My concerns were not the way they dressed or the playful stuff which is deliberatly O.T.T., it was all the drug refrences and sex stuff.

I would've had no problem if the film has been '15' as people around that age are obviously smart enough to get it as a big joke, but kids of around 12 or younger can watch it and I don't think the level of humour is right for their age group.

I mean I loved 'Superbad' which makes 'St. Trinians' look like 'Teletubbies' but under 15's couldn't see that.

Although I didn't like the film, that doesn't matter. What bothered me is the fact it's pitched as a family comedy when it quite clearly isn't.

I actually thought the film was alright. It did what it set out to do, get some laughs. And I agree with the person who mentioned the heist- it was funny befreo then but once they had decided on that it was funnier.

reply

When I saw the film the audience seemed to be mostly made up of family groups :

And , as far as I could tell , nobody was offended by the drugs jokes ;

But I was at a screening in Manchester.

(I don't like using names of places in a joke : but I do live in Manchester so i guess i"m entitled to ).

reply

The two people in front of me turned and exclaimed whenever an inappropriate adult joke or a drug-refrence was uttered. The 'right Count' joke is not suitable for a family audience.

If you're going to be that uptight about it, watch a few cartoons for kids, and I mean reeeeeally watch them. Spot the innuendo! There's so much innuendo in standard kiddie TV that even goes right over it's intended audience's heads.

Cartoons such as? I mean granted there's alot of innuendo in shows like 'The Simpsons' but that was never a show meant for children.

What cartoons are you referring to?

Rocko's Modern Life, on Nickelodeon.

"... I read a pamphlet." "So, I once looked at a hedge! What's your point?"

reply

I don't think any cartoons on Nickelodeon contain veiled refrences to blow-jobs or make a joke out of the word 'C#NT' There's a difference between mild innuendo and the type 'Trinians' offered up!

Every single cartoon on the planet. Try SpongeBob Squarepants, Invader Zim, Fairly OddParents, Looney Tunes, every Disney cartoon out there, I mean come on! Thinly veiled perhaps, but still there, and a way to get it past the censors.

Yeah but then there would have been uproar because a load of adult males were going to see schoolgirls in skanky outfits.

reply

I actually really liked it, I don't think people are really going to copy what they were doing tbh.. well maybe stupid people. I thought it was quite funny and Russel Brand and Rupert Everret were really good! but most of my friends thought the film wasn't really that good.

reply

I just saw it, almost two hours ago in fact. I thought it was alright - good for a laugh. My friend even went as far as saying it was the best film she had seen in a while. Personally, I wouldn't give it such praise

reply

well me and all my friends who have seen it (all aged17-18) loved it :D

reply

i know its bad as a reference to drugs and stuff but it was so funny when there was that bit when the teacher was like ' does anyone have any smelling salts?' and one of the younger girls came and said ' no but i have poppers! '
i mean i no thats its bad, really - but it was so funny in the film!

reply

I loved it, except the shower trick which made me very uncomfortable as it was was really too real to be funny, and I'm drawing my pension!
I'm sure I got a lot of the jokes which missed the younger teens (mainly references to CF's film career)and I'm sure I missed some of the others, not being a reader of gossip mags.
The jokes which offended people on behalf of the youngsters watching- probably went right over the heads of many of the youngest audience members, and if they understood them I'm sure they'll cope!
To be honest I was much more worried about a trailer for Walk Hard which was shown before St T, which was way smuttier than anything in the St T film.

reply

It's entertaining.

As for those who wants to be enlightened and enriched,
this film is definitely a PASS for you guys.

BTW, Gemma Arterton is charismatic.
It's a shame she took the Bond Girl role. lol

Seriously. I'm sure parents who have younger children are aware of the original St Trainians and wouldn't have let them see it. And you were saying how it shouldn't have been a 12, have you see nwhat 12 year oldsa re like nowadays!
And tbh I knew most of the references in that film when I was 12, you are in year 7/8 at school already and there is just as much drug reference in High School but obviously without the comedy value the film has!

I thought it was wicked!

reply

I agree, I mean I loved 'Walk Hard...' but there was NO way that trailer should've been passed '12A'!

Your expectations must be rock bottom if this is the sort of crap that entertains you.

reply

no. me and my friend loved it.

reply

i really liked it, everyone in the cinema seemed to like it loads too.
the film is totally larger than life and so to look at the drug taking and go 'ahhh what a good idea' you'd have to be the kind of twat who would also think it was possible to break into the art gallery in the way that the girls did.
people takes this kind of thing far too seriously. any child who would be affected by mentions of drugs probably wouldnt get the drug jokes so what does it matter anyway?

reply

I just thought it was utter crap

saw it, liked it. am a 15 year old girl.i did not personally find it offending or very unusual, belive me, people i know do similar stuff (drugs, smoking, drinking, although i can't say they blow things up......)O.K some of the stuff they do in the film is totaly illegal and even more than unlikely, but then thats why we have films; to entertain us. to see other people do what we can't.i've seen films worse than this(more damaging to my poor fragile young psyche, ha ha...)when i was younger and put it like this; oblique refrences to or jokes about sex/drugs tend to just wash over younger viewers heads. unless they're really precocious. i mean, i saw Jim Davidsons Sinderella when i was about 8/9 ish (bad parents) i understand the jokes now but back then they didn't damage me at all(although watching Predator at age 6 did...bad parenting again)so i really dont think St Trinians is going to do the kids watching it, or the kids in it, much harm. try and just take it for what it is; entertainment.

reply

I completely agree.
This is a light hearted, tongue in cheek comedy, and some people
are taking it far too seriously.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film when I went to see it, and shall be returning to the cinema
soon to see the film again because I thought it was brilliant.

There's just as much offending, unusual content in pre-watershed soap operas than there
was in St Trinians. The difference is St Trinians does not attempt to represent real life, whereas
programmes like Eastenders and Coronation Street do. It is clearly a light hearted film to be
enjoyed but not taken too seriously. Simple as that.

reply

Hey, Joe, I hope lots of others take your cue and see it multiple times! If it does really, really well, it may still be in cinemas when I'm in London in mid-February. I want the opportunity to see this!

reply

It was the fact that 'Trinians' was suppossedly a 'light heatred' romp that trivalising 'taking uppers and downers' and the such made it all the more harmful in my book.

Those soaps you mention may be capable of worse, but atleast it's not glossed over or used for comedy. I mean is 'St. Trinian's' so badly written it has to stoop to this kind of humour to get the laughs the previous films did without it?

"Why do we fall Bruce?"

reply

I loved it. I'm a 23-year-old girl and I never went to boarding school. But I got the references, enjoyed the jokes and thought the comic timing and casting was brilliant. It was light-hearted and well-intentioned and made me laugh out loud at several points. The people on this board who are properly slating it need to get out more; it's great fun! I mean, even with all the sex references, they were hardly offensive. You'll note that they are limited strictly to the older girls, all of whom are over 16 and therefore legal! It wasn't about men taking advantage of young girls, but rather the complete opposite. The original was far worse in many ways, especially with all the smoking, which has interestingly been taken out of this one. Honestly - how could you not enjoy this film?!

In short, I thought it was fab, and it almost made me want to go back to school, throw a desk out of a window, make moonshine during my break, don my garter belt and indulge in a heist. If only my formative years had been half as fun as that!!

I really enjoyed this film. It is no way near a cinematic masterpiece, or anything of the like, but it's a good film in terms of being fun and lighthearted, and some of the acting skills are brilliant. Makes me wish I could go back to school!

reply

I actually loved it. It may be that I was drunk when I went to see it, but my god...I am a straight girl and Gemma Arterton was so freaking hot! Plus I'm in love with Russell Brand. Perhaps I'm biased.
Oh well!

Really though, it was a fun, giggly, girly film and although it can - and never will do this original St Trinians Justice, it did feel as though if those films were done for the current generation this is how it would be. I don't think it is worthwhile to compare this with the classic originals, or with any film out right now, but I did find it extremely entertaining...isn't that what films are for??

No, I loved it - it's just some fun that's all. It's no morality lesson, just a bunch of school girls having a laugh. I mean, after all, isn't that why they do what they do at St. Trinians - have a laugh and make money for themselves?
People need to come down from their high horse and acquire a sense of humour.

reply

I totally agree with the above comment. I mean, the film wasn't meant to be Oscar-winning material, it was just supposed to be entertaining and lighthearted! Which, by the way, I thought it definitely was ; )

And who could resist Colin Firth in a wet shirt again?!

reply

And who could resist Colin Firth in a wet shirt again?!

OMG! He looked so gorgeous in that shot! Admittedly, and I'm expecting many to disagree with me, I found that wet shirt scene better than his original Mr-Darcy-in-a-wet-shirt scene. Mainly because he looked more as we usually see him (i.e not in period costume and his hair his usual style) and the shirt was fitted and thus more clingy. I just turned to goo watching that.
