I wasn't a fan at all of this film, but the scene that makes me most angry is when Mickey takes his girlfriend to see the "boring" foreign film.

They take the most cardboard cut-out, stereotypical "nerd" character in the world, wearing glasses and a scarf, and have him praise the "cinematography" of the french film in his nasally, whiny voice as Mickey and his trashy girlfriend roll their eyes.

Cut to Mickey falling asleep in the theater.

The message?

"This is what a BORING, artsy movie is like. You're watching a REAL movie right now! Boxing! Blood! F-bombs!"

No thanks, I'll take The King's Speech instead.

Or better yet, how about Rocky?

It's not actually a french movie. It just has a french name.

Uh, I thought Micky* fell asleep in the theatre because he was TIRED. Do you people not even know anyone who does physical work??

100% disagree...

Besides the fact that he wanted to get away from the places where they would annoy him because he lost another fight he wanted to impress her a bit by showing that he has also a bit of an intelectual side. Which quite backfired on him by falling asleep and showing that she was also quite bored.

But how dumb can someone be comparing this movie to "The Kings Speech"?
That´s like saying I preferred "The Fighter" over "Despicable me" because "DM" didn´t have enough real actors...

Well you succeeded in showing everyone how cultured and intellectual you are with this insightful post...

It just was not Micky's type of film, and he would settle for it to avoid Lowell. Its supposed to be funny because we can clearly see that Ward is not a character that is going to appreciate 'gorgeous' cinematography. No hidden message here.
