Christian Bale was 10 out of 10

Are you kidding me? His performance is amazing.

I love this movie. It's the best thing I've seen in at least 3 years.

It really was a great performance. Never would have known he was the guy that played batman. Had to do a double take.

I just watched this the other day. I didn't know about this movie til I caught the synopsis on Netflix and thought it seemed interesting. After watching, I was shocked at Bale's performance. I did a little digging to find he won an Oscar for this performance. Now I'm not one to understand what goes into Oscar selections, but this one really stood out for me. I didn't know he had the acting chops.

I dont think he has been better. A close second for me would be American Psycho.

As Dicky he had such a charisma you cant help but love him even though he is no good. And that swagger and everytime he smiles I found myself grinning along with him. Tremendous!

A terrific actor all round and rarely makes poor choices of films to make.

Haven't even got half way through the movie but had to come on these boards as his performance is so good!

What a stellar actor.

OMG!!! I know Mark Wahlberg wanted so much for this film to be made; can you imagine him watching Bale in his scenes with him??!! He must have been GIDDY with happiness that Bale played the part. (And ditto, of course, w/ the astounding work of Melissa Leo and Amy Adams and every single actor on the screen. So often I wonder who chose the main actors; i don't know if Mark and David Russell together i.d.'d the actors , but whoever- should be wicked proud of themselves. I'm not sure I have ever seen a better piece of ensemble acting in the 50 years i have been watching films. I saw this at a theater when it first opened and tonight i saw it on dvd, and my jaw is totally on the ground, again!!

I completely forgot i was watching a movie, felt like a documentary, i forget it was Mark Whalberg and Amy Adams, but most of all there's no way that person in that movie is Christian Bale, that's an entire different human being, what an actor

reply

But 10 out of 10. Come on 9.5 would be more correct

I agree insofar as we still recognize that Christian Bale is no chump and that he is a force to be reckoned with. I thought "The Machinist" was mediocre, and "American Psycho" is very problematic, but not because of Bale's acting. Bale's the man. There should be no doubt in anyone's mind Bale is among the elite actors of our time, but a 10/10 performance is Marlon Brando in "On the Waterfront" or "The Godfather"; possibly even Mickey Rourke in "The Wrestler" or Hugh Jackman in "The Fountain. But Bale certainly reached out and took ownership of balls in "The Fighter." Sometimes as a viewer I'm unsure if the film is about Dicky or Micky, because Bale is obviously the superior actor.

I agree with you completely. You can't help but love his character and at the end, we see the real Dick Eklund and see the resemblance. Bale is a great actor and I always enjoy watching his films.

I just watched this movie for the first time and felt compelled to go straight to the message boards to comment on Christian Bale's performance. "Are you kidding me?" is a perfect reaction, I was utterly blown away by his portrayal of Dickie.

You know a performance is transcendent when you almost start laughing at various points throughout the movie because your mind is being blown again and again with how amazing it is. The most recent movie that I had this same reaction while watching was with James Franco in "Spring Breakers" - equally captivating with how completely he disappears into the character "Alien".

Wow, just wow. Performances like these are what I love about movies.

He was fantastic. Bale is certainly one of the best of his generation. The Prestige, American Psycho, The Fighter, he's truly amazing.
