Great film, but the 'light' is such an abstract theme
What does it really mean? Yes, we know it's because it reminds Tetro that he caused his mother's death and it makes him relive the horrible past with his father. But so what? Yes, there is immense development from all the characters because of the events caused by that accident, but the symbolism of the flashing lights was not powerful enough to drive this through. It was too abstract and lacked a strong emotional impact. What? Bennie inherited this attraction to the light from Tetro? Was it the ''truth''? The film is about family and familial rivalry, not the car accident.
Regardless of this criticism, it is a great film, or at least a very good film, and shows us Copolla is still a master of screen-writing and directing. Directors really do get better with age.
