Vincent Gallo's Performance?

For those of you lucky ones that seen this film how, in your opinion was Vincent Gallo's Performance? It seems to me like the scenes I saw was forced, like hes forcing a loathing troublesome feature to come accross- Hes trying to act the part rather than have it naturally develop. the coffee shop scene was not believeable, the scene where hes talking with his brother is almost painful to watch his mannor when the waitress brings out the eats. his brother acted a great roll in this scene its just Gallo, seems to be a offstep in the few scenes I saw so far.

What's everyones opinion on Gallo's acting?

His best performance to date. Then again, his work isn't of top notch to compare it to, I really think he deserves a nom or at least some recognition for this movie.

I just seen TETRO on the big screen. I take back what I say regarding Gallo. He let his style thru, maybe overdoing it a little in a few scenes but it still did not rune the performance. the internet scenes did not give it justice, as its a complete different feel on the big screen.

Gallo reminded me of Sean Penn at times in the movie.

Who would have thought he could do something like this after such a mixed career preceding it?

I'm a big fan of Gallo and Buffalo '66 is my favorite movie ever, but I think he wasn't good in this one. It had some similarities with '66 (dad hitting on girlfriend, girl being a dancer, him not liking his father, his father abusing him, his behavior towards people and love and affection), but I think his acting wasn't very good. On the bits where he speaks spanish, it's just HORRIBLE (if you can speak only a bit of spanish, you know what I'm talking about). If you're an actor and you're supposed to speak another language in a movie, you should make an effort to do it believably, come on.

Anyway, I thought the movie wasn't as good as what I expected, coming from Gallo and Coppola.

Gallo was very very good, I can't see Matt in this role with his thick accent. Gallos performance was subtle yet very poignant. This is one of Gallo's greatest roles.

I thought he was fantastic. So was Spanish actress Maribel Verdu.

Maribel Verdu sucked...She's trying to pull a Penelope Cruz and break into the states and failing miserably...ANNOYING!!

I thought Maribel was the best part of the movie. She's a fine actress and a lovely woman in her own right. No need to rag on her for not being Penelope Cruz.

When I think back on the film, I think Gallo did well. What came off to some as forced, came off to me as a character flaw. The character was awkward and strained. Perhaps it was the acting, but it added to the character for me.

I can see Matt Dillon in the role, but think Gallo was a great choice. He just seems perfect in the role, to me. That's my 2 cents.

I just saw the film and I never saw Gallo's acting as "forced." He came across simply as the character he was playing -- Tetro. If anything, he played it low-key.
