Jeff's death

I feel like this is a good indicator that the natives weren't doing this out of personal hostility. It was all to prevent it from spreading. That was their concern, I think the natives felt sympathy for them. Because the only reason to shoot Jeff would be to give him a quicker and more merciful death, since his death at that point was a sure thing.
