'My phone should work, it's a world phone'

Nagging point I know but it's our job to point out this stuff. Mathias confidentally says his phone will work where there is no signal. True if you have a satellite phone, but his clearly wasn't. Did he have a $1000+ Iridium or similar? No it's just a typical consumer flip-phone. No dice.

It meant his phone was capable of picking up a signal that Eric's phone couldn't see.

Most of the world uses GSM. Most places in the US do not. It's not that there was no signal; it was just a signal that Eric's phone could not find. Mathias likely had a phone that was CDMA/TDMA/GSM capable so it could see the signal.

You need to be in range (a couple miles or less) of a cell phone tower. That location is no where near a cell phone tower. Unless they build cell phone towers near ancient Mayan temples that no one ever ventured near.

Me fail English? But, that's unpossible.

actually GSM signals are good for 50-100 miles depending on their configuration.

reply

pointless original post and discussion. come on people its a movie about killer vines and talking roses.

reply

It's not pointless. It's a valid goof made by the movie. Just because the movie has killer vines that don't exist in the real world doesn't mean the whole rest of the movie's errors can simply be dismissed. It's a movie discussion board for bleeps sake. Anyway, the guys "world phone" almost certainly would not have worked even if he hadn't stupidly handed it over to the fat local guy.

reply

That's clearly not the case... according to wikipedia it's more like 35km (22mi), from my personal experience it's much less than that!

reply

Couple of miles? No wonder american cellular system sucks.

reply
