Why Didn't the Vines Attack the Group at Any Moment?

Why didn't the vines just attack the group whenever they wanted? I mean when Amy and Stacy were down in the temple the vines left them alone until they touched the rose petals. And when they were on top of the temple, the vines only attacked when they didn't expect it i.e. when they were sleeping or their attention was focused some place else.

In my opinion, I think the vines enjoyed intimidation and breaking down their mental state before attacking. Almost like a predatory instinct to make sure their prey is weak and unaware before going in for the kill.

vines love playing mind games? so the rumor is true!

The vines aren't superhuman. They are easily broken and cut apart. Their strength is only obvious when the group are physically starved and mentally distraught. I highly doubt attacking them in the beginning when they were all still at their best would have accomplished anything. The vines always waited until the group was lured into a false sense of security, or a sense of hopelessness and a loss of the will to fight. Technically the vines only directly killed one person in the film, Mathias, and that was only because he was incapable of fighting back. The vines are not hungry cougars here.

Yeah, me too. I'm pretty sure he meant "Occam's Razor", lol.

reply

Actually I think he meant to say "Akon's Razor" , he showed it on stage once - it's pretty sharp...

Than why is the aztec group or whoever was surrounding the temple so upset the second someone actually touched a vine, like that kid from the group he was instantly shot, and the end the one who got away was still affected from the group and had the vine inside her. Its much more than attacking, one way or another they were already dead.

The plants couldn't kill anybody. They simply drove people mad and made them kill eachother to feast on the remains.

First guy was shot by the natives.
Little kid shot by natives.
German guy died from bad amputation.
Next one was stabbed in the chest.
The girl cut herself up and died.
Last guy was again shot by natives.

reply

German guy died from the plant suffocating him. He's the only one that was directly killed by the plant on screen.

Also, the girl in the beginning was directly killed as well.

If the vines just attacked right away then we would have no movie, but I don't think thats what you meant.

"Why didn't the vines just attack the group whenever they wanted?"

Well it seems like they did attack whenever they wanted,

"when they were sleeping or their attention was focused some place else."

You answered you own question with your question.

The wine petals were also making that mobile phone ringing tone thing.
As if it would have expected people to much easier fall to it's prey.
Which they did.

What clichés? Thats a word the wannabe critics use when they want to whinge.

The plants wanted to break down their mental state, strategically. If I remember correctly, in the novel, besides voices and sounds, it also has the ability to mimic smells, tormenting the group by mimicking the aroma of food.

They'd turn the group against one another by mimicking their voices, specifically picking up on the sounds when Eric, Amy, and Stacy get drunk and criticize everyone.
