So why didn't they...

... start to toss vines all around the Mayans that were there? They could stay at the top of the temple and toss around the vines till they infected everyone!
What do you think???

reply

lol, I came on here to say the exact same thing! If I was with them, and the mayans wouldn't let me leave, in my head I'd be thinking "Well, screw you guys, if you're going to force me to sit up here and die, then I'm going to kill you to". I'd then proceed to grab vines up, roll them into balls and begin launching them at the spectators below.

Another "Why didn't they...": Why didn't they burn the vines? They have matches they have alcohol. They should've started a brush fire. They could just leave the vines inside of the ruin alone, but burnt the ones on the outside off. It's not like it would improve their chance of survival or anything, since they're pretty much already screwed. But at least they could've burnt the ones on the outside, so they could die in peace without having to worry about the vines ripping into them.

What would killing the Mayans accomplish?

The Mayans are no different from Center for Disease Control (or whatever it's called), protecting the rest of population from getting infected.

What, you have an infection and may die and since you have it you want everyone to have it, too?

Burning the vines outright may of made them even more aggressive, made them "swarm".

reply

As far as I am aware the Mayan civilization ended thousands of years ago. These Mecksicans are not Mayans.

BAN LIVE EXPORTS!

reply

This idea entered my mind too. Also as far as what killing the Mayans/Mexicans would accomplish? Being able to escape and go to a place where modern medicine may be able to do something? Seems like these people are about 700 years removed from this century.

Ignore the smoke.

i was gonna say the exact same thing. you'd think a pre-med would have thought of that. good movie though.

Vine apocalypse...that sounds cool. About burning the vine,i think i read somewhere that it would fail because the plant its alive - green so it wont catch fire...

The Mayans were WAY too far away for them to throw the vines from the top of the temple. They were like thirty feet away, not including the steps of the temple. Had the tourists got close enough and started throwing vines, they would have been shot. Plus, would you like to start grabbing handfuls of those vines?

reply

They could somehow attach the vines to a rock or something heavy and throw it...just a thought!!!

reply

LOL at this thread. I think like others have said, vines are alive so will not burn easily. Other things to consider are they are not your normal vines so could be impervious. If they used something like whiskey or gasoline, might not kill the vines but might start a blazing fire which the characters would not survive lol

Also I don't think grabbing the vines in any way is an option, sneaky buggers will impale you in a second. Seems to be far easier grabbing a poisonous Snake lol

reply

Glad you likes the thread.
Ok so if the vines could react so aggresivelly, why didnt they attack the vilaggers? I mean they could expand and grab someone, couldnt they?
I like it that we analyze it so much!!!! Lol

reply

I was thinking the EXACT thing, I would be like screw this whatever this is I'm gonna throw it on them and run for a doctor!

reply

Yea thats the point..

reply

If they poured the whiskey on a portion of the vines it would have started a pretty good fire!

reply

They didnt have that much amount of whiskey...and as someone else said, the fire wouldnt last cause the vines were green so alive and its not that easy for the fire to spread.

reply

they were too far and i don't think the plants would respond passively if they started plucking the flowers and leaves, the vines would grab them.

reply

It might... but they could grab them from the beggining if that was the case.

reply

They had guns!
Surely throwing a couple of balled up vines were no match for bullets.

reply

You wouldn't be able to throw the vines very far, even if bundled up into the shape of a ball. Wrapping 'em around a rock might work though. But we have to remember that it took the youths a couple of days to figure out what was really going on, like why the Mayans were quarantining them on the pyramid and the deadly nature of the vines. By the time they figured out what was going on they were either dead, dying of thirst and/or infection, or going crazy.

Well they were desperate too... crazy and desperate its an explosive combination! Besides the guy who was playing the doctor, seemed to have clear thinking for quite a long period of time.

reply

They didn't give up on help arriving until the very end. Their focus was survival, not antagonizing the Mayans who already proved they were willing to kill at a moments notice.

Furthermore, anyone hurling the vines-wrapped-around-rocks from the pyramid stairway would've been shot on the spot. As far as throwing them from the top where the Mayans couldn't see them, it looked like quite a long way from the top of the pyramid to the Mayans and the jungle; after all, it wasn't some puny pyramid. As such, you'd have to be a college/NFL quarterback to throw something that distance and I didn't see any quarterback-types in the cast.
