Am I The Only One Who Didn't Like Georgia?

I'm referring to the character of Georgia here, not the actress, I thought she was one of the better ones in the movie.

I just thought she was a bit of a cow really. At first I could see that she was just trying to get the guy who she really liked, which is fair enough, but when she said about how her friend should dump that Tom guy because "did she really want to settle for some guy who sells vegetables". I mean...wtf?! The guy she wanted worked in the same shop, so surely that's a bit hypocritical. I also felt really bad for that Dave guy.

I haven't read the books so not sure if she's meant to be shown as acting like a cow and then realising and changing, but when I got the movie, I didn't really feel like she'd changed much. Robbie picked her coz at the end of the day he still liked her, and she apologised to him. But that Dave guy, she could have just explained to him that she would go to the gig with him as a friend, but nothing more, so she wouldn't be using him.

Anyway, just my views. I'm probably reading into this too much, but just saying what I thought. Don't mean to hate on the film or anything.

I think the georgia in the books is more of a cow. especially with all her snidey comments about jas and tom being so loved up.

reply

I like her, I find her very sweet and kind.

If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all.

I think the character of Georgia (in the book) is meant to be a bit of a cow and annoying, which she achieved oh so well :) But when I watched the movie, she wasn't as bad as I expected.

~It's not a promise. Not a guarantee. Not an IOU. Just a phone number.~

i hated georgia, shes an ugly bitch more of a weak cow who tries to ruin poor boys life...what an old cow

Honestly, I think A LOT of girls out there is like that and cultivate those kinda thoughts and actually say it out loud on impulse. But as cliche as it sounds, majority of them learnt their lesson from sprouting sardonic words. Ya, it can be very irritating and I do admit she was very insensitive. But honey, that's reality. Just my 2 cents. (:

Same situation for me here. When I was around 14/15, I wanted to grow up so quickly and wanted to be treated differently. I even wanted to have a boyfriend so badly just to get to know the experience. At that age, I was pretty sure that I got my life sorted out and everyone (especially family) seems to go against my idea because I was "growing up too fast" and don't even bother about my studies. All I cared about was acting like an adult and being treated like one, having a smashing good time, pubs, etc. I'm currently 16 and I don't have such thoughts anymore. I guess as you grow older things will become more clearer and one day, you'll just be sitting back, sipping a cup of coffee/tea/coke/whatever you have and think to yourself "Thank heavens I didn't stick to the decisions I made when I was 14/15".

i agree, but then i also think that alot of teen girls go through a period of selfishness and bitchiness.

then most of us grow out of it lol.

reply

lol, you're not alone.

i think she was such a "cow", too. but more in the books. in the movie, i almost related to her and sympathized. maybe it's because of the actress, though. she showed a bit of a vulnerability for me, despite the script being a bit 2D. =/

reply

She was a sweetheart in the movie if you compare her to how she was in the books.

yes

I've only seen the film once in 2008 so my memory isn't that clear, but I think they may have made her nicer in the film.

In the books, for me saying whether I like her or not is kind of difficult, because she makes me laugh like a loon and she can be a nice and sweet person. On the other hand, whilst she isn't a bad person, she does have her bitchy side, and she is completely self obsessed and superficial. So are a lot of teens though of course, and a lot of people at 14/15 are as immature as she is. I don't think you're supposed to see her as a role model haha, I think you're supposed to just laugh at the things she says and the experiences she goes through. The way the books are written is quite tongue in cheek which I love. The way Georgia always comemnts about how superficial her friends are, but then she's as bad as them.

"I see you lying next to me...with words I thought I'd never speak..."

I somehow agree =D

She's not cool - but probably she's just teens who acts like a teen? Idk I forgot when I was her age.

My problem isn't with her though. It's with the whole movie. It's too sexual for kids. But idk... Well I've seen THIRTEEN (2003) and I guess that's how (some of?) the teenagers are but I'm a very conservative person and the movie makes me uncomfortable. Besides, I'm Eastern and all this western teens life is just... not happening here where I live. It's very hard to enjoy because I can't relate. At all.
