Memorable Quote re: Lance Armstrong

IMDb is listing the following as a 'memorable quote' from this release: "I'd like to begin by saying *beep* Lance Armstrong."

I didn't see the special, nor have I picked up a copy of the video, but I'm assuming that Carlin expanded on or otherwise explained that statement -- however, that part wasn't included in the 'memorable quote'. So, if someone who *did* see this would please respond, just what the heck did Lance do (or not do) that tripped Carlin's trigger?

reply

Just a followup. I cut-and-pasted the quote exactly as it appeared on the "Memorable Quotes" page -- f-bomb and all. But when I hit "post" and it turned up on the forum, I see that it got 'modified'.

I wonder why the word is OK in one part of this site, but not in another?

Profanity is automatically removed the second you post, just so you know no living being has edited your post.

All Carlin says about Armstrong in the special is the following:

"I'd like to begin by saying *beep* Lance Armstrong. *beep* him and his balls and his bicycles and his steroids and his yellow shirts and the dumb empty expression on his face. I'm tired of that *beep*hole."

Basically, that part and the stuff that follows it is not so much about Carlin actually hating Lance Armstrong as it is about him hating to be told who to admire.

Thanks, ZCAB. I'm OK with that. I sometimes feel the same way about the way we are told to idolize or otherwise pay attention to people, celebrities and sports figures in particular. I frankly don't give one rat's tuchus about who's hot or who's not in things like "American Idol" or "Dancing with the Stars" (and I proudly say that I couldn't name the latest winner of either one even if you threatened me at gunpoint!), but I know people for whom the sun probably wouldn't rise if they didn't get their daily celeb fix.

Now then, re: Lance -- I personally do admire him and his grit and determination and his single-mindedness of purpose that let him set out to do something and then do it. As the saying goes, "It ain't bragging if you can do what you say you can" -- which he did, and then some. And I'm pulling for him to make a strong showing with his comeback this summer.

And I figured that it was an auto-filter that edited out those kinds of words. I'm still curious to know why it didn't get filtered out in the "Memorable Quotes" listing. After all, aren't those quotes submitted by users as well?

I think its because a quote is supposed to be well, a perfect citation of what was said. In writting that means with spelling errors as well. When Carlin says *beep* someone, it has to be quoted as he says it. Otherwise it isn't a quote.

following that he said 'and *beep* tiger woods too
