One SPOILER Question

When Wexler is sitting on a bench in Istanbul, a man approaches him in a pinstripe suit. You don't see his face. Given the way the movie has been going, you start to think its one of the legions of hitmen employed by IBBC to get rid of inconvenient personnel. But later, when Skarssen is shot on the rooftops, you see a man in a dark suit who is obviously looking for the person who ordered the shooting of Calvini because he mentions the bereaved Calvini family members. So that makes me wonder if it wasn't he who also shot Wexler. Kinda hard to say firmly, but anyone else share that theory?

reply

Yes, the hitman who killed Skarssen is the same person who killed Wexler.

Dick Laurent is dead

reply

Do you think he's a pro or just a friend of the family who is outraged that the bank would pay for an assassin?

reply

I think he is a pro.

What baffles me is how Skarssen goes to Istanbul without bodyguards and thus finds himself completely alone in the final scene. Really stupid script hole.

reply

Hey, yeh that kind of came into the back of my mind at this scene as well. Surely the head of a major international back on an incredibly dubious overseas visit would have substantial company in the form of legitimate aids, secretaries, etc as well as significant body guards. If it was any of a thousand other movies he would have called in a helicopter to pick him up from a roof top nearby.

But hey, it's a movie, admittedly this particular scene left a rather large plot hole in my mind but I liked it all the same :)

reply

it wasn't the same guy because the first hitman used a silencer on wexler, but when the Italian hitman killed skarssen he doesn't have a silencer on the gun.... y would he take it off... besides that italian hitman at the end was just down right super cool... he comes in all smooth and dressed nicely-then speaks some beautiful italian and puts 2 rounds in him and simply walks away....

reply

It is the same guy, the reason there is no silencer is because he shoots Skarssen with Salinger's gun.

As about the security, I'm sure he had some, but probably left to wait outside the temple (or whatever it was) as Skarssen must have thought it would be safe inside. Still, not too believable and also why does he not try to get to them or at least call them over a phone/radio but instead chooses to go on a run?
