Just finished Roberta's Blood Trail

And I really enjoyed it. I thought it was interesting that in the anime Roberta got wounded pretty badly by the end but in the manga she didn't even have a scratch. I personally like the outcome in the anime more because really she was going against soldiers who had been trained as special forces. I wonder if there will be any repercussions for Eda since she was responsible for getting a lot of those men killed.

Yes someone was complaining about this on another thread but it's better that she was wounded. It's kind of symbolic of what happened to her psyche during the whole ordeal. Besides alot of the other badass characters get hurt, including Chinglish and Revy.

As for Eda, I don't think she suffers any consequences. The men knew that they were in danger, it comes with the territory and they did essentially manage to complete their mission. It appears that Eda is too good, and too important to suffer repercussions, her superior was pretty happy.

but it's better that she was wounded

Seriously?

I just rewatched it, having purchased it on Blu-ray, and must say, I still love it. Maybe I'm biased because I've seen less of the manga, but I think Roberta getting wounded was a good move on the anime's part. Don't get me wrong, I love Roberta and she was absolutely badass through the whole OVA, but it makes sense these highly trained soldiers would wound her.

Lethe main reason why I don't agree with Roberta getting injured is because if Revy could never wound her in the first season when they were going head to head, there is no reason why the soldiers should have been able to wound her - I don't care how skilled they are. In the world of Black Lagoon, Revy is the top notch bad ass over every and all other bad asses. If her heart was really into it she could take Balalaika and Chang. She would probably survive by the skin of her teeth, but she could do it. If even Hotel Moscow could not injure Roberta when they fired all of those bullets and rocket launchers at her , then the US military should not have been able to either.

And now to learn that in the manga, she survived without a scratch - well that sounds like blasphemy!

revy's a badass but i don't think shes been portrayed as being as badass as your making it out to be. other wise there probably wouldnt be any need for the black lagoon crew as she could just kick everyones ass herself. i liked roberta getting badly injured because she really could have only fought and dodged thousands of bullets before a couple finally hit her.

Revy herself said she is not on Changs level

True. Revy is infamous and still extremely young so I would assume that (saying that the manga continues or just getting meta) she will probably exceed the likes of Chang in time (assuming she doesn't die).

No, Revy has also expressed concern over getting in a fight with Balalaika in Japan, and as someone else mentioned, by her own admission Chang is better than her, so she's not indestructible as she admits.

I liked the injuries a lot. The idea reflected in the series was that Gray Fox and Co were the American version of Hotel Moscow, who Revy and Eda, and Roberta and Revy, backed down from. And as far off the rails as Roberta went, she lost focus and her edge, making her more powerful but also vulnerable. No one of the unit was as tough as her, but the whole idea of a unit is that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Besides, the South American actually had Roberta disarmed and at his mercy, and he wasn't portrayed as Revy level, especially since he killed himself with his own stupidity.

I've leafed through the manga, and this is a rare instance of where I prefer the anime. Much like Bebop.

The issue isn't so much that she got injured, but more that they went out of their way to make it clear that it's the end of the road for her. She basically suffered career ending injuries, so is now likely out of the picture. Not good for those who like her character and want to see more.

reply

Yup, you got that right.
A fair number of the people really don't like Roberta, and also they are quite spiteful toward her.
I really don't like anime Revy, but I never wished for her to get, like you said "career ending injuries".
And, you're right about fans who like her. It's not good for us😞

I didn't know Roberta was disliked. Thought she was one of the more interesting characters.

Just read a few of the previous comments, and you'll see. I had a many conversations with various people, and there are people who like her very much, almost as much as me, and there are the people who hate her, because reasons only known to them. For me she's a very interesting character, and I would say she is the only character in Black Lagoon that is interesting to me, but for other people I don't know.

I liked the anime. It had consequences and felt more realistic as far as cartoons go. And I've read the Manga and I still like the outcome in the anime more. Know what? I shouldn't say that I liked it more. It felt fitting given the situation. The only thing I didn't like was making the American soldiers look like the good guys. But even for them, the entire theme was a persons demons.
