Animation Style

I've heard someone refer to this as "flat" style animation. Can someone please elaborate?

I think the series suffers from redundancy, but it's other positives really boost this series to the top of my list.

The character design is beautiful, the animation gorgeous (especially Ai's twilight world), the music involving and the story lines- while redundant (literally my husband and I got to the point where we could recite Hell Girl's speech at the end of each episode word for word) - definitely hold my interest.

I've only seen through Disc 4 of the American dub, though. But I'm hoping we learn of Ai's origin soon...

It's been a while, but I don't think you get much info about Enma Ai at the end of the first season. The 2nd season covers her whole past and why she is Hell Girl.

As for a "flat" animation style, I don't really understand what they could mean by that.

Dang!

Now we have to wait forever to find out. God knows when and if they will release season 2 in the US!

In the Netflix reviews someone calls it the "Murakami/superflat" animation style. Maybe I should do some research to determine what is meant by this...

I believe that Funimation also has the rights to the 2nd series, so I would expect the first volume 2 months after the last volume of the 1st series.

You can watch it at www.meagavideo.com. Search for "Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori" for the second season.
