WEDDING NIGHT

I thought the wedding-night scene was romantic and tasteful. It took us back to a now-forgotten era when most people actually waited till then to have sex.

I was very moved by their courtship but once they were in bed together Rupert Friend didn't convince me he was at all into her. It was just weird. The same way he was unconvincing with his girlfriend in Mrs. Palfrey. How can a person who is so asexual on film get a leading role in a love story? It was a letdown, considering how the film was just perfect otherwise.

I think he played it very well. Wife or not, she was the Queen of England. Also, they were both very young and had presumably never been with anyone before.

If you watch the deleted/extended scenes it gives a bit more insight into what he was thinking and feeling during the scene. I wish they would have kept the whole scene in the movie.

reply

I think we're meant to assume he was a virgin as well, so in that case his apprehension is understandable.

reply

I watched the extended version of that scene on the dvd. I wish they had kept the full scene in the movie itself too. It was very sweet and well acted by both.

I thought Rupert handled it very well, and acted like the perfect gentleman he was brought up to be (prince albert that is) and didnt just charge into her like any male would, lol.

I wouldnt mind being in a Jeremy Renner and Wentworth Miller sandwich!

reply

Ya I agree with Jumpy. They sure missed a beat in making it tensionable and sexy. It was bollox. Fortunately I have a much better screenplay.........

It was, I agree! It's rare these days in movies, very endearing almost.

I saw this on Starz so i didn't get to check out the deleted scene. I thought it was wonderful too, in a world where they could have had porn-like sex scenes it was very tasteful and sweet.

I agree! I think it was handled really well and was very sweet.

The whole time that scene was happening I kept saying to myself "He's your first cousin! Your first cousin... first cousin first cousin first cousin first cousin first cousin........" The actors are very pretty but that still didn't help, ever since I heard early on in the first part of the movie that they were first cousins there was no going back. It was so wrong and yet acceptable back then to keep royal blood pure *cringes*.

reply

In those times this fact was normal... family members married each other.... usually it was cousins more than anything.. it wasn't really a huge issue then. Nowadays, yes, that would be looked upon as odd, and wrong in society's eyes.. but then, affluential families wanted to keep their money and estates in families... a good way to do that was to keep the families together... check out the family trees of the current royal family... you'll see that alot of them married distant or not so distant family members....its just how it was done then i guess

It is historical fact that Victoria was very happy the morning after her wedding night. Since she was undoubtedly a virgin, it makes me assume he was a very skillful lover. She adored him her whole life.

You know it is a myth that people waited untill they where married to have sex in the past.

For what it's worth, I would've hated to have the first time on your wedding night. Presumably for most newlyweds, they'd be on their honeymoon or about to embark on it. Not a great time to be "sore". Kills the mood for the rest of the romantic getaway. I'm just saying....

My husband and I both lost our virginity on our wedding night and I wasn't sore or at all uncomfortable. (and yes, his manhood is just fine, LOL!) Obviously I have only one experience of losing my virginity, but I would imagine being mentally, emotionally and physically prepared (KY lube) helps a lot.

Ha. The lube was the best advice I got before getting married. One of our relatives went to Sam's Club or something and bought us an industrial sized tube of KY!
