Confused about the continuity

I was a fan of the first Hobgoblins and enjoyed this one, but not as much at the first and I'm confused what Rick Sloane has been saying about the story continuity.

It apparently takes place 20 years after the first one with McCreedy in the mental hospital and Kevin and his friends are now in college. If it took 20 years afterwards, then wouldn't Kevin and his friends at least be in their forties?

Also Kevin and his friends have no memory of the events of the first movie and Kevin has no memory of working with McCreedy at the movie studio.

My take is that Kevin are his friends in this film are different people entirely, but similar characters to the ones in the first film.

I heard Rick Sloane might be planning a third Hobgoblins with the original cast where McCreedy has passed away. I wonder if he's going to address the continuity issue.

Anyone know what's up with the continuity?

And why the F don't they recognize a Hobgoblin on the screen?!?!

Ugh. This is already angering me.

It is explained in the interview that Rick Sloane had. What he wanted to do was make a sequel but he wanted to change some things differently from the first movie. I do not agree with it at all because it changes what the original film was doing.

The only problem is that would Paige Sullivan also be included in the third film? I did not see her interview along with her original cast mates from the first film.

I finally listened to the DVD commentary and you're right, Rick Sloane wanted to change the story a bit from his original script since it's been 20 years later.
