Were themselves right? but travelled through the triangle shaped portals so they ended up at odd places at odd times...

At least that's how I saw that whole ordeal, and that would explain why not even the Afghan man could find his way out cause once they were getting closer to their destination they accidentally walked into a portal which took them 1000s of feet elsewhere to another portal

I can't really get that to make much sense with the floating in the end though
