crap ending. . .

your thoughts?

reply

yeah I guess my question is why you thought it was crap.

reply

why exactly did Jane come to live with them for the summer?

reply

I don't think it is a crapy ending, just not that interesting.
through out the movie, the writer try to convey a sense of destruction ( go fishing,, and the firefly game with tennis bat)
through those kind of messages, we would all thought it end badly ( suicide of some source by someone)
i think the end is quite unrealistic, and what gives this movie such bad rating
there are no particular interesting moral value to this movie either

reply

I felt like the ending was...non-existent in a way. I loved the movie but the ending didn't make much sense, it was just nothing really.

reply

ending was crap, as was the beginning and middle.

reply

guys, this is a realistic movie. these movies has no shocking endings / sudden turns. by the way, the movie is complete & perfect in all sense. what are you guys expecting from it?

all the loose ends in Michael's mind about his family were perfectly joined as he tends to realize them in a mature way. that's it. that's how everyone goes in life.

AM I DREAMING??? WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT?

reply

I really hate endings of "art" indie movies. Broken flower, junebug...etc Believe me this was amazing comparing to them. LOL

reply

For some reason I thought the ending was kind of perfect. I know something big could have happened that would've made the ending more eventful, but for some reason I really liked it. I actually teared up when he said "Max," I just thought it was a great way to remember his mother and a great way to end the movie.

when the movie ended i realised that there were some things that i couldn't understand what about the father after he says that he will be good is he really good? and if it is why the relatinship between him and michael was so crappy? why jane didn't want michael to publish the book? what was in there that her husband shouldn't discover? if they had an affair that was not clear at all... it wasn't necessary the story of the alcoholic wife if the subject wouldn't been analyse deeply...
and finally why did jane live in lisa and charles' house? lots of things i didn't understand... the ending also was maybe not unrealistic but hypocritical because if michael was really that mad with his father everything wouldn't change just because they watch a movie...
the other thing that was unclear to me was the fact that charles killed her wife and admited it to the police but seems as if he didn't feel guilty at all...

Dude, we use movies as a form of escapism. No one wants to watch real life, except those idiots who enjoy reality T.V. There is nothing wrong with having a problem with a movie because there is nothing interesting about it. It's a movie, you are supposed to be entertained. However, I did enjoy the movie, the ending was it's let down.

I can't agree with that. I haven't seen this film yet, it only opens here on Friday, although I'm glad to see that you liked it. But I think many people do enjoy a film that reflects something more akin to real life rather than melodram. Having said that, I suspect those are NOT the sort of people who watch reality tv rubbish. That isn't real, its fake situations with people playing to the camera and hoping for celebrity. It seems to me to be far more likely to appeal to those who like cheap superficial melodrama than realism.

I don't mean this to sound like an attack on you. You obviously appreciated this film, which seems more of a character piece, so I'm sure that you realise that films can be more than just escapeism. And I pretty much agree with your opinion of reality TV viewers, its just that I think those interested in realism and charcter pieces are entirely different from those who like the cheap sensationalism and mock reality of those shows. I suspect if they drag themselves away from the box long enough their choice of film would be the tackiest of blockbusters.

Exactly my point: You don't feel your real life interesting and whenever something ends, it's not always profound, it's very subtle.

I agree 100% with your comments.

Doesnt necessarily have to end in tragedy or something melodramatic.

This one left me cold. Some good performances (it's always good to see Carrie-Anne Moss), but no story. What was the family secret the sister was hinting at? Why did Michael destroy his book? I wanted to care but couldn't. I'm not surprised this never got an American release.

I thought the whole thing was pretty crap. I found it hard to get into. It bored me.

I thought it was good and as always RR shined but ther was something missing and the ending seemed a little light. I wanted a little more closure for Michael and his dad. Its no The Nines or Chaos Theory but it was still a good film. And I've seen everything but Buried with RR so I know all of his projects. ;)

The ending was meh but what were you expecting, Michael revealing he has super powers? This is a film trying to depict the realism of turbulent family life so there was never going to be an exciting ending nor do films like this ever end in a neat, nicely-rounded manner. We saw some form of closure between Michael and his father, that Christopher is coming to terms with his aunt's death and we see that Michael is going to be a father so will very likely try to reconcile with his wife. That's about as rounded as things are going to get.
