It wasn't anti-outdoors at all. It was anti-going-out-in-the-wild-unprepared-with-a-drunk-for-a-guide movie.
Anyone with any survival training could have avoided many of the pitfalls that they fell for.
So can anyone tell me if this is anti-left-wing or anti-right-wing? <JK>
Anyone with military or outdoor survival training would have immediately advised them not to pile all the food and water onto one mule. You put all your eggs in one basket, well, when you drop the basket that's what happens. Food and water should be carried by all the campers. The spare bulk food and water would be kept on the mule. Remember each camper rode a mule so there was no reason not to carry food and water individually.
shareAlong with don't put all your eggs in one basket with the mule idea, I think it was also advocating not blindly trusting your guide without paying attention. When they admitted to each other that neither had been paying attention to where they had been going but just following along, I think that was a big part of the message. Even if you have a trustworthy guide and not a drunk, accidents can still happen and you should never enter a wilderness environment without having done some preparations for yourself and making sure that you stay oriented to your surroundings.
shareIf beer isn't involved, it's not camping.
