What is Guy Pearce doing here?

The ¨guy¨ who made the coolest movies such as Memento and LA Confidential is playing a supporting role in this horrible film? He must be desperate and needing money!

I know. It's a shame, that he dopes this stuff.

DeNiro is funny, Pearce is not (at least in here).

It's an Adam Sandler film and a children's film.

Both of those things can get you better than average talent for supporting roles.

Let's be honest, EVERY big name - with the possible exception of Courtney Cox - is slumming it here.

I've been in love! Just 'cos I've never been to Zimbabwe to buy someone a cake!

Just because someone decides to make a Disney film aimed at children doesn't mean they've taken a step back in their careers. Sometimes people want to make something that their children can watch and enjoy. Also starring in a child's movie means wider exposure, which means more money and endorsements, and also the fact that your role will live on forever in rec rooms everywhere as some kids favourite movie.

reply

Everything you said above is true (except the endorsements thing), but you have to have some discretion and judgment. Guy Pearce has turned down lots of big Hollywood stuff to maintain his career's integrity. Doing a kid's movie is ok, but this one was terrible, was made by a bad director, and had as bad a script as could be conceived. Considering the rest of Guy Pearce's career I, and his other fans, expect better from him. He was not the worst thing in this, but even he wasn't good enough to elevate this stupid movie... Maybe he is trying to audition for a musical and wanted to do that stupid Broadway presentation thing.

lol since when is working for DISNEY "slumming it" , its the most famous studio for kids movies and has a great history to it.

I used to like to believe that the reason a usually consistently great actor/actress was doing something less than impressive was because they wanted to take a break from their serious and high calibre projects and do something more fun. I have no doubt this still applies in some cases. However I recently read a brilliant quote from Michael Caine, which has more truth in it than most people would like to admit: "I've never seen [Jaws: The Revenge], but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."

And seeing as Guy Pearce doesn't have any kids, I'm willing to bet it was for the money.

I only do it with superheroes.
