Why is it taking so long?

They delayed it to make it better. Square have already said Versus is going to be released after FFXIII (2009 in Japan, March/April 2010 US/EU), knowing them, they will wait until hype for XIII has died down, then hype up Versus and release it.
Expect Versus to be released late 2010 in Japan, early/late 2011 for everyone else.
Guys, it's Square Enix. They always have a huge sense of graphic and story quality. And this is PS3 quality. Meaning the textures and everything about the environment and characters are going to take a LONG time to make. Besides that, the battle system takes about a year to program and master. They should spend a lot more time on it because I hate the name. I hate the name because a lot of people are going to get it mixed up with the first FFXIII. And without knowledge about the game the "Versus" doesn't seem to make any sense. So they need to wait a while before releasing it so people don't get confused with FFXIII.

Lawl, no.
I think the last word on it was a cheesy video they showed at TGS 2009. It looked horrible apparently though. They just wanted us to be sure that it wasn't a myth and they are still developing it. They have to do a lot though.

It definitely wont be out in 2011. Maybe 2012 for Japan and 2013 for everywhere else. Maybe then we will see a Kingdom Hearts III!
