Who exactly are the nimrods who cancelled this show?

I so enjoyed this show - didn't miss an episode. What a fabulous cast! Why oh why was it cancelled, and for heaven's sake, what idiot or pack of idiots made the decision to cancel it? Are they still employed? They ought not be... my 2 cents worth...

reply

Yeh they ought to go to jail for this decision.

This was one of the best shows around. I am so sick of the crap, as in so many stupid reality shows. I'm hoping they left us hanging because they will bring it back. My fingers are crossed!

I totally agree! The "suits" at ABC simply have no clue! I thought this was a great show and really loved it. Donald Sutherland was fabulous in his role.

The last few remaining episodes were a major disappointment but we all know about the writers strike and then DSM banishment after the return. But they could have made it so much better!

This show would ROCK on HBO! HBO are you listening??????

reply

This show was fabulous and Donald Sutherland should have received an Emmy nomination. If I had to venture a guess as to why it was cancelled, my guess would be money...the show clearly is very expensive to produce and ABC probably couldn't afford it, and though your idea of bringing it to HBO is a good one, you must remember that cable networks have even smaller budgets than the classic big 4.

ABC sucks.. yea they would have nothing without Lost really...

it is so weird to see how everyone is going on bout this show. i am finding it highly frustrating and....bad. i blame it mainly on the BAD script writing and 'nick george's' horrific acting skills. the only thing good bout this show is the characters brian, karen and jeremy, cause they can act.
basically the point i'm trying to make is....i can understand why it is cancelled. i'm surprized that it even got a second season.

reply

karen was horrible...

the mistake was not using Lisa more and having Nick stay with Lisa...

reply

Really? What about Blair Underwood (played Simon Elder) and Donald Sutherland (the father Darling)? I agree that Brian, Karen, and Jeremy's characters were good. I'd add that Lucy Liu's character, Lisa George, and the Senator Darling's character were brilliant. I could go on about the show for sure.

This show had a lot of things working against it...
It premiered around the time the economy went bust, and it revolved around the lives of a bunch of spoiled rich people, so I can understand why it got lower ratings. Most people don't want to watch a bunch of billionaires argue over petty things when they're loosing their job, car, house...
Its first season was also cut off after 10 episodes because of the writer's strike. Most of the shows that premiered that season didn't make it.
It also must have cost a lot to develop those sets, and with a budget like that, if you're not getting great ratings, you're not going to last long.

I honestly wish this show was still on the air. Dirty Sexy Money had great writers, great actors, and the perfect blend of comedy and suspense. My favorite characters were Karen, Brian, and Jeremy. They got the best comedic lines. I miss the show, but I still enjoy watching the DVDs!

Wow! I have to admit you wrote down everything that i'd planned on posting on this thread : )..the series easily had viewers hooked with good acting and great lines;quality stuff that would perhaps be more appreciated had this debuted a couple of years earlier..

I blame poor planning on ABC's part. There are reasons why DSM was one of the first shows of the 2007-08 season to get renewed for a full season--it had decent ratings at first and it was a show of great quality. But ABC let their Wednesday night schedule fall apart and did little to save it. And then, stupidly, they renewed the same struggling shows and put them in the same time slots. Had ABC switched DSM to after Desperate Housewives and moved Brothers and Sisters to Wednesday nights (I think if the show is as good as people claim it it, the viewers would have followed), then DSM probably would've had great ratings and thus been on the air this season.

I agree with what you're saying. But I would even watch this show if the cast were walking around in rags and sleeping in cardboard boxes under a bridge.
The characters are awesome, and the plot is awesome. I don't watch the show to see sets. I could just watch MTV cribs if that really interested me, but I don't. Beautiful sets are boring. People are interesting.

Even if they have to go a bit cheap on the budget, I think they should bring it back :)
Hopefully they'll do re-runs and more people will watch the first 2 seasons and it will pick up more ratings.
I don't know how the business works, but its really lame that crap like Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters continues, and awesome shows like this are cancelled.

reply

I still believe that Dirty Sexy Money would have gotten better ratings if it came on after Desperate Housewives. Those shows had a similar mix of comedy and suspense, so they would have appealed to the same audience. Dirty Sexy Money could have built a bigger fan following by showing promos during Desperate Housewives..."Coming up next..."
It's sad when a crappy show like Brothers & Sisters can stay on the air, and Dirty Sexy Money gets cancelled.

reply

It got canceled because hardly anyone was watching it. Few viewers & low ratings = cancellation.

reply

Exactly. It got cancelled because of the lack of viewers and ratings. It might had survived for an extra few episodes, but the cost of the show was extremely big. Really big! So, it wasn't a shock when it got cancelled.

It just did not fly in the ratings and the stories were not that interesting.

Its that man again!!

I was deeply shocked and disappointed to find out that this show had been cancelled after only 2 seasons. I do believe the economy crash and writers strike probably had a bit to do with it's declining ratings. I think this show really had potential and if was remade could thrive very well. It really drives me insane that it's an incomplete story, like a book you get hooked on and when you get half way through reading it just spontaneously combusts and you never find out what happens and it eats away at you. You find yourself going through multiple possible scenarios and endings but nothing satisfies your desire to know what really happens.

I mean I would much rather watch this than something like Gossip Girl who shares a similar elite socialite aspect and rich/poor family ties but it seems is more focused on petty drama. DSM has an allure about it, a thickening plot and realistic characters and love them or hate them there was a little someone whom people could identify with and enjoy watching. There was real issues in there and character development and entanglement. So I do not understand why GG is still airing and this show isn't??? Sure some of the writing could have been a little better sometimes but DSM is alot better than most of the longer running shows on TV.

It would be so great if this show got picked up again, even better if they could get the original cast back. I'm sure it would get alot of it's old fans back and even some new ones, just don't air it at the same time as Dexter, Spartacus or True Blood. Desperate Housewives is over now and Revenge is meh.. If I was as rich as the Darlings I'd pay for the production myself even if I was the only one watching it.

I totally agree with you, they cancelled a great series and they should all be fired.
