Charges

Why was she only charged with the first murder and not her boyfriend?

reply

She was charged with murder in both of the men's cases. She was only convicted of murder in Harry Berge's case.

Hoffman was later charged with and tried for both murders. The story kept getting stranger and stranger as it went along.

For a detailed, excellent story about the case -- which truly was sensational and reportedly was the first trial televised in its entirety in the U.S. -- check out the following, published online today:

The film premieres tonight at the Wisconsin Film Festival in Madison, Wisconsin. The events took place in Madison in the late 1970s and early '80s, so needless to say there's great excitement here.

Gov. Jim Doyle, who was then the district attorney who prosecuted the case, will be in the audience with his buddy who wrote the book, also called "Winter of Frozen Dreams."

The film will be shown in a theater at Madison's Sundance Cinemas for at least a week starting April 10.

Since the article in the post above has apparently been taken down, I will post this:

The story is a bit different than the movie.
