Absolutely terrible @

I have just seen the first episode of the new series (8) because there was nothing else on. Having not watched most of last series I wondered how bad this once great show had gotten and boy, it has become absolutely terrible. I really think they should have called it a day at the end of series 4, maybe 5, because what I just sat through was complete and utter rubbish. To make things worse I read that the heart of the show - the garveys - are only in the first 3 episodes. They are the show and without them I really don't see how it can carry on, it wouldn't be so bad if there were funny or likeable characters left to replace them but all the good ones have either jumped ship long ago or are no longer around
The. hhhhhhhjhhhhhhhhh
I think it is long overdue for itv to call time on this now awful show,

*sorry about the slight error there lol*

I hear this is the last series

Thank god. Its truly dreadful now. I watched anyway but I wasn't even entertained. I was bored and every single scenario is predictable. Every one. Crap writing. Shame. Series one and two were great.

Series one and two are my favourite series' too. It was a totally different show then, and it was actually funny. Series by series it has just got worse and worse as different characters left. It is a shame because in this new series there are a couple of new actors who are actually quite good comedic actors, like Perry Benson, but the writing is awful, tired and unfunny.
Even Oliver Stokes (michael), who used to be great, is no longer funny - just boring and predictable. I suppose as he got older he is more aware of having to act - and he can't. In the early series' he was genuinely funny.

It's amazing to think Benidorm won many awards back in the day, you'd never believe it now would you?

reply

I was so disappointed. It was tedious. I quite liked Jackie's companion Glyn, but that was it.

reply

I have seen him in other stuff and yeah, he's another one who is a good comedic actor given

And is it just me or is there sooooo much gayness in the show?
Why? I'm gay but I'm not saying i find the cheap jokes offensive or anything. They just arnt funny and its unnessasary. Maybe its just me...

reply

Yeah you're right lol I thought that too! The writer/creator of benidorm - daran litten I think is his name6 but not sure for definite - is actually gayi so maybe that's why?

Gay Characters working in a Hotel?? Who'da thunk it!

I'm quite embarrassed to admit I actually enjoyed this programme. Series 1-3 were quite funny, but eight series? You've got to be kidding me. I thought it was only five or pushing series six. Blimey kudos to Johnny Vegas for realising the show has run its course I admire him for that.

"im beautiful your not" - me
"you're* " - you

Johnny Vegas is back

I loved Series one and two, even series three was enjoyable, but 4 onwards is terrible. Yes, there are some funny moments but the storylines have got so far fetched and the characters are just so unreal now.

In the first couple of series the characters were believable and the storylines just mimicked everyday life... now is so daft its not even funny.
It worked so well because you could relate and now, well... its quite sad to see something lots of people enjoyed turned into a joke of itself.

I must admit the last few series have not reached the heights of the early years and when I heard the Garvey's were leaving was worried that it would suffer even more but I have been quite surprised on how it has improved since their departure and although still not as good as the early years I am enjoying it once again.

The last two episodes of Benidorm (not including 30th January) have been excruciating to watch. Painfully unfunny and crass. I know that the show has never been known for it"s subtlety, but these latest episodes have just been crude - in an unpleasent sense. After last week's episode, I decided to stop watching.

Thanks for the report from the future , series 8 is just starting Jan 4 2016 , not sure I'll bother watching after reading your review , It has gone downhill season 5 and 6 were not very good , lets hope the Dawsons are a good replacement for the Garveys .
