How did April belittle Frank at breakfast??

I've seen a few posts regarding people thinking she belittled him at the last breakfast when he drew the computer thingy. I don't see this. Can someone explain why they think she was belittling?

April gave Frank a brief contemptuous look when she realized that he really did like his job after all and was actually showing enthusiam for the future of computers and how they worked.

You missed the emotion of that scene entirely. It's what isn't said and how she reacts.

I don't think i missed the emotion of the scene. I do have 2 theories however on the scene so could be wrong on one or both. 1. April knew that what she was planning on doing after Frank left could possibly kill her and as a last act of love and goodbye (while fearing her next act), she tried to make him happy at breakfast and tried to reconnect with him one last time. Or 2. She was testing Frank by playing 'stepford wife' and guaging his reaction as to if that was really the kind of wife he wanted, which he did by saying it was the best breakfast he had ever had with her (and wasn't able to see through the facade), thus confirming her decision to go ahead with the termination.

My question regarding why a lot of people think she belittled him is what threw me as i didn't see that.

I don't think she belittles him at the last breakfast. The way I saw it, she was being robotic, a Stepford wife, so he wouldn't catch on or suspect that she might do anything rash. He had already brought up her need for a psychiatrist.

She pulled it off. He didn't guess. He was perplexed by her abrupt change in behavior, but he accepts that she is back to normal, since that's what he was hoping, what he wants to see.

Another poster said she was being intentionally robotic and Stepford wife to see if he caught on that that's not her. When he was happy with the unnatural way she was acting, that said it all to her. I agree that that is a possibility.

But I tend to think it's the simpler thing. She had her plans already made for the day, so all she had to do was make sure no one would catch on before she could do it.

I completely agree with you.

I don't think April was belittling Frank. I think she was just trying to get through breakfast without upsetting him.
