BEST suspense movie EVER

I was lucky enough to see NINE DEAD before its release. . . and let me tell you it was GREAT! It was totally different then other thrillers out there (I was afraid it would be another typical psycho-killer movie that you would guess the ending by the middle).

And I have to compliment the acting and artistic direction, since there was very little to play off of and the way the film is set, and yet it kept my attention and was totally believeable (I was engrossed the whole time). There is some blood and stuff, but it didn't have to be full of gore to get the point across.

. . . and the ending was really awesome! Take my word for it ;) I can't wait for it to come out so I can watch it again!

The ending was awesome? I must have seen a different film then

Why do certain type of posts always put that "I was lucky enough"...

"See it with someone you love...Go by yourself"

reply

Because you usually don't just buy a ticket to go watch a movie that hasn't been released. So OP probably felt lucky to be chosen to see the screener.

Best suspense movie ever??? Ive seen commercials for toothpaste with better suspense...Awesome ending??? please tell me whats awesome about an ending that explains nothing and gives no payoff after a 90 min painful investment. Artistic direction!?! LMFAO ok you blew it with that one...who are you, one of the producers? A co-star? A grip? co-writer? am i getting warm?

reply

the OP totally was tongue in cheek with his post.

reply

The best I have read in ages... pretty awesome... cant say the same about the movie... ;-)

The ending is one of the worst I have seen in long time...

reply

I totally agree with OP.

People can BASH this movie all they want, i don't care.

I liked it.

It was really suspenseful and anti-SAW considering the very low-budget.

And what about the ending? Cry more if you didn't like it.
It was a minimalistic ending... if you can't cope with that then you shouldn't even like movies like A Serious Man, Barton Fink, Thomas in Love and so on...

But i get it, some people prefer a TOTAL exposition of things and a full explanation of the plot. Well, ok, i feel sorry that Hollywood is your shepherd and you are the sheep.

You're fully aware that the motive to this mans actions are as follows:

Some guy trying hard to resemble Chris Evans borrows money from Antoine from Deuce Bigalow. Chris Evans then fails at being a meth dealer and gets busted. So when he gets out of jail he buys a gun from Tyrese Gibson. The gun is later used to rob an Asian lady in a liquor store so that Chris can pay back Antoine. The Asian lady then explains the events to Clarissa. Meanwhile Chris Evans confesses to a priest about being the real robber. Back to Clarissa who is a down on her luck attorney who needs a win. Needing this win so bad she wrongfully accused a man of this crime. With the help of a cop whom is cheating on his wife with Clarissa she planted evidence to convict the innocent man. This innocent man goes to prison for his crimes where he is raped by a human representation of Big Gay Al. The innocent man contracts AIDS from Al and slowly begins to die. The mans father watches this by his bedside and applies to experimental medicinal treatment for AIDS patients but is declined by a scientist. The father then rounds these 9 people up and plays a game to "teach them" the error of their ways. After all of this he then frees her as he promised and is willing to turn himself in. She then shoots him and the other 2 survivors and as the police arrive she escapes out of what seems to be the back door.

Now if you were kind enough to read that ABSURD story than I will thank you.

With all of that said the plot holes and pointless dialogue in this movie are staggering.

One example: The priest character who heard the confession wouldn't break his oath at first. Making it very hard for me (and any other logical thinking person) "How did this become known to the captor". The only two people who knew of this event were Chris and Father Priest.

Another: The captor knew Chris Evans commited the crime which again only 2 people had this knowledge.

Another: The captor knew who sold the gun to Chris Evans, a man who said he had never been caught.

Some flashbacks and "plot developments" were completely unnecessary like unveiling Clarissa to have killed a rapist. Which actually was becoming a developing plot when we had learned slowly that multiple prisoners have killed people. But that stops dead for no reason at all.

The suspense was more minimalistic than the ending by far. It was rinse and repeat for 90 minute of "why are you here?!" responded with "WE NEED MORE TIME!" followed by an off camera gunshot. One of the scenes where they even showed the gun firing there was no fire out of the barrel because they didn't even think to include effects that minimal.

I feel bad for anyone who can call this movie anything above an example of how not to make a movie.

What I would like to know and I guess we both failed to point out is why didn't the asian translator end up in the room too? I mean (I can't remember the gender)he/she was just as much a part of the plot as any of the rest of them. So why the asian no language thing? What purpose did that serve? None at all it would appear to just about anybody I suppose.

Hahahahaha EPIC WIN. So true.

> The only two people who knew of this event were Chris and Father Priest ... Another: The captor knew who sold the gun to Chris Evans, a man who said he had never been caught.

Oh, and you forgot;

Another: The captor knew that the DA gave the evidence to the cop to put in the evidence room. Only those two would have known.

Another: The captor knew of the loan to Chris despite the fact that he shouldn't even have known Chris was the robber.

Another: The captor knew of the affair and the true parentage of the DA's son. I recall that Kelly tried to keep a tight lid on that information.

And the plot itself was weak. What if the father had "randomly" killed one of the players before they revealed their key piece of information? Oops! Now it is impossible to figure out the solution and you might as well kill them all now.

Oh, and getting HIV these days is not a two-year death sentence. With standard treatments the victim can live a strong life for twenty more years. Look at Coogan who gave Wade the disease. He was still alive and relatively healthy two years after Wade died.

Thank you! You caught exactly my opinion of the film - a cesspool of plot holes meant somehow to suggest a real screenplay. There was an idea for a watchable film in there, but it quickly shriveled up and died for lack of attention.

THIS...WAS...THE...WORST...MOVIE...I...HAVE...EVER...SEEN...!!!

LMFAO! Are you high? Or were you when you watched this steaming turd of a "movie"? Anti-saw? its a horrible saw rip off.. this movie couldnt hold Saw's jock strap with a dumptruck....9 strangers in a room, why are we here, whats the deeper meaning, bla bla bla bla..... The ending? WHAT ENDING!?!? lol!!! nothing happened. they show melissa joan heart walking into an alley!!! Are you kidding, this movie wasnt worth the film it was shot on!! that is too funny..."a TOTAL exposition of things"...how about 1%, how about ANY explanation of this films ending.

reply

I sure have to agree w/you there. This movie sucked and Melissa Joan Hart's acting was HORRENDOUS. She was even worse than the unknowns in the film. The plot was far from original and there was no real suspense. I just wanted the movie to hurry up and get the hell to the end.

reply

Buddy are you telling me you are both a fan of the work of the coen brothers...AND this film? Because that is pretty impressive. I mean to just not feel any shame like that...

Like seriously did that just happen? That in some small way you compared A Serious Man to Nine Dead? Just trying to process that...
