I just had to shake my heard when I read this in the Wikipedia description:

unlike previous depictions, Ming resembles a blond caucasian human, rather than a bald East Asian man, possibly to avoid the allegations of racism associated with the original depiction

Groan! So while it would be wrong to make Ming "East Asian" because that would be "racist," making him a "blond caucasian" is somehow NOT racism?

What rubbish.

So in typical modern hypocritical fashion, attacks on whites are fine and okay, but having any villain be of any other race, even if that's true to the source material, is wrong?

If it's "racist" to make Ming an East Asian, then it's also "racist" to make him a "blond caucasian"!

The naked cultural Marxism of this is appalling.

Hollywood, please, leave your leftist propaganda at the door and just make an entertaining series.

Well, trans, your view point may perhaps be correct, but I wouldn't worry to much about it, very few people payed much attention to this low budget, sorry excuse of this version of Flash Gordon.

What! Ming in this show is a blonde dude.. I was just looking around, that's the final nail in the coffin..
The Flash Gordon cartoon series was amazing, at least the first season, that's what drew me here. Understandably the atmosphere of the original series would be hard to capture given that Mongol is a very exotic place but they could have at least got the characters right. Gina Holden as Dale Arden, I dunno.. Aura seems ok although she is the most memorable and sexiest character for me from the cartoon series. One of the scenes I remember, when Flash and the Lionman are captured by Aura and her troops and are being transported, the way Lionman ridicules Aura was hilarious.

bout time your average white male started objecting to the crap the asians, blacks etc are pushing on us... if history shows the white male to have been an oppressor of other races, then thats just because those other races were too thick(stupid) to develop arms and technology, (or co-operation within their societies) to prevent the more advanced europeans from taking advantage of them.
If my ancestors had been taken as slaves, rather than moan about my ancestors mistreatment, I'd be wondering why they were dumb enough to be taken advantage of.
Oh, and yeah, Ming should be an asian, clues in the name...

Yep. Just like any pre 1960's film that portrayed Blacks as: lazy, shiftless, bugged eyed, fearful, unintelligent, subservient, happy (in situations such as slavery when they SHOULD be plotting to kill "massa" and break North)and generally a child in the body of an adult that needed White "guidance". Now you know how that feels. Not so good huh?

You do have a point there. but thank the gods at least Flash was played by a more appropriate actor.

That got me thinking one of the tribes in this series the Omadrians are like "Nazi-*Bleep" and are still largely portrayed as "good".

Dale was kind of annoying not too feminist but still...

I can't believe you missed the freaking point of Ming being a blue eyed blonde.

Need another hint? How about the way he exterminates all the genetic deviants?

How about the way he's obsessed with DNA testing everyone and banishing (or "concentrating") all the impure people to the deviant camps?

Were you seriously so wrapped up in getting angry over the race of the actor that you missed the most obvious point of why they wanted him to look Aryan?
