Blu-ray alternative

Probably old news but I'm just trying to be helpful:

For people that want the best of both worlds I suggest ordering the UK version of Payback from Amazon UK. I own it and I can definitely confirm that, not only does it have BOTH the theatrical cut AND the director's cut, but it also plays on my US PS3. As I only have a PS3 I can only personally vouch for it playing on the PS3 BUT as per the members on the forum of the very reputable Blu-ray.com website, it is CONFIRMED that the disc will play on american blu-ray players.

As the American 'Straight Up' version costs about $22 on Amazon this UK version wound up costing me about $17 INCLUDING shipping so it should cost around that much now depending on exchange rates. $5 less to have both versions on one disc is definitely the smarter deal.

I hope this info helps the people who want to have a copy of the theatrical version on Blu-ray. I, myself, prefer the theatrical version over the director's cut but you are nuts if you only watch one and not the other.

On a side note: I also bought the UK version of Man on Fire because the US version on Blu-ray is bare bones while the UK version contains all of the special features from the limited edition DVD for the same price INCLUDING shipping.

Good tip.

I have the same edition, and can confirm it plays on my Japanese PS3. It's a Warner disc, and they rarely (never?) region-lock their blu-rays. Not UK editions, anyway. Both cuts are on the disc, both look & sound great, Helgeland commentary on the DC and a couple of other good extras (interesting 'making of' the DC, and an interview with the novel's author). The rest is bog-standard behind-the-scenes and interview stuff.

Overall a good blu-ray release (certainly the best available for this film), and very good value.

Aussie blue ray is likely the same... our release of Payback here (which I bought last week from JB Hi-Fi for $16 AUD) has BOTH versions, the commentary, and a nice doc about the difference between the two (along with a few other behind the scenes bits and pieces).

The doco isn't that long, but certainly covers everything I could think of... it's nice also to see both 'sides' of a TC vs DC doco actually cordial and understanding the other side's reasons for what they did.

Both versions look great too, but (and this is the first time I've seen it) the DC looks gorgeous by comparison (no more strange blue filter!).

It also have 1 more advantage. It has lossless audio, Dolby TrueHD. The American BD has only a simple and highly compressed Dolby Digital audio, which DVDs use.
