What initiative was there to give him the money?

Speaking in the context of the Director's Cut, once he leaves James Coburn's house and the guys holding the suitcases, the Outfit really had no reason to give him the 130k ..., I mean the 70k :)

In the theatrical cut, he had Bronson's son. In this, he had nothing. Maybe I am missing something.
