This one is more grittier, darker and a no holds barred type of film. Also, all the unnecessary sub plots have been removed. I mean, who cares who the hell is Bronson and his son and the kidnapping of his son and all? Just get on with the movie! Mel's character is ONE bad ass mofo in this picture! He's just too soft in the Theatrical cut!

Couldn't agree more. Even before I knew this existed I always felt the original was too soft and catered too much for Mel's usual audience. This is a black comic thriller, whereas the original seems more like an action comedy.
shareThe best film would be roughly, the theatrical release with the blue tint up to the killing of Carter then go with the directors cut (keeping the blue tint) to the ambiguous end, but even that I would trim a bit, there are just too many syndicate men waiting for an obsessive nut case wanting a measly 130,000. I'd keep the beating of his wife & the killing of the dog also.
