I'm a 5th grade teacher, and.....

this show is SO unrealistic! Also, at the end of the show, in the fine print, it clearly states that the children are given the questions/answers to study before being on the show. The material on the show is not something the typical 5th grade student would know. This show irritates me!

Yea I figured that they taught the kids the test. From the behind the scenes clips, it seems like the network has a private school that it uses to teach these kids. Then later on, when they're making the show, they ask the same questions that they already went over earlier.

reply

So it's fixed? If they give the kids the answers, then when they get one wrong, they're throwing the contest. Therefore, the show is fixed.

reply

The kids aren't the contestants. The contestants aren't even playing against the kids. They're only there to possibly save, or at least help, the contestant. It's not much different than the lifelines on "Who wants to be a millionaire".

reply

They're kids. It's possible they have simply forgotten the answer.

reply

its pretty obvious that if that were true, it would be them giving the answers and questions to like 50 questions and then just using 10 of them.

How come every kid doesnt get 100% on spelling tests when they were given the words earlier in the week?

reply

I'm pretty sure the kids are given a book to study from which contains possible questions and answers, but they aren't told which questions will appear on the shows. If they get one wrong, it just means they either forgot or didn't study that particular question.

reply

They aren't just given a book, they are given CLASSROOM time...

The private school sounds like a MENSA mill

Love is all you need.

Are you saying that because they had to study for the test (or in this case, show), that means the questions aren't fifth grade level? Did you never need to study in school before a test, even though you'd already gone over all the information in weeks/months prior to the test?

No I have great memory for remembering useless facts. None of this crap was taught. I can remember things from the second grade but these were random questions like jeopardy.

reply

How long ago were you in 5th grade though? Unless you are in 6th or 7th grade right now, you really don't know what kind of things are taught in schools nowadays. I was in 5th grade 22 years ago in 1991 and I know they are learning way more advanced stuff then I was at the time.

reply

Doesn't coming here to IMDB and seeing that all the kids are child actors to begin with, not to mention all the fine print like how they're fed the answers before the show eliminate every "realistic" part of the show?

I always laugh when it comes on after king of the hill in the morning on fox here.

I downloaded the game, and play it alot. Some questions are really irrelevant, and in reality, who cares.

Such as: If you are in a library, under which dewey decimal would you find history? I mean who cares!

They should have that option: A) .600 B) .800 C) .900 D) Who cares

"I'm locking in my answer...I am going for D

"That....is corrrect

reply

I thought libraries were using the metric system by now.

The TOPICS are things that are covered in the respective grades but the specific questions are rarely questions kids in those grades would answer.

It is also really "Are you smarter than a 5th grader that never gets a single question wrong ever?"

Which few of us are, even those that are really smart. Some of the information you learn in elementary school really is only useful for passing elementary school and nothing else.
