SAG rules when an actor is 'uncredited'

James Franco played Richard Gere, Jr. (Max Flanner) in an UNCREDITED capacity. He was not mentioned in the credits, thus the movie could not have been marketed using his name as an actor.

Does anyone know for a fact which particular SAG rule applies here and why producers are so fond of using a name actor in an uncredited capacity?

reply

I expect he was so embarrassed to be in this movie, he begged to be uncredited.

I agree. I love Franco, but that was not good at all- the movie or his job acting.
