WTF! horribly dissapointed spoilers

Okay so my bad for not reading the book but I had no idea that Richard Gere's character was going to die. I was all ready to watch a romantic love story only to be horribly lead astray when he doesn't come back to adrian. I love James Franco like the ext girl but I actually said WTF when he showed up on her porch (I watched this at home, not in the theatre lol). I realize everyone loves a tragic love story and you are suppsoe to cherish the time you have blah blah blah but I'm so tired of stories having this tragic ending. Can't people just end up happy and together anymore. I found Becoming Jane horribly depressing too even though I knew how that one was going to end and don't get me started on Atonement. I love a good romantic comedy but how about some deep romance dramas where one or both people in the relationship actually live. I'm not saying there can't be tragedy because that's life but how about a happy ending. Okay sorry that is my rant for the day, life is just so depressing sometimes that I don't want my movies to be.
Thanks for listening

I agree with you -- I just posted a similar thread. I happen to love Atonement; I thought it was a brilliant film on many levels and we were prepared for the tragedy -- and the tragedy made sense -- in a way that it absolutely did not in this film. In this film (and I am guessing the book) the tragic turn at the end just came out of nowhere. It seemed so cheap to me -- like Sparks just ran out of ideas and so he decided to kill off the ideal man in a freak accident so Diane Lane could spend the rest of her life miserable. Blah.

I totally agree! I was like wtf I knew it! Well I didn't know if he was gonna die or if she was, but I just know he was gonna kill one of them off. Damm him and his sad endings! Oh and thanks for spilling the beans on Atonement. I wanted to see it but never have, I hate sad endings so I'll pass.
